Broadcast and reception system, and receiver/decoder and remote controller therefor
Abstract
A receiver / decoder for use in a digital satellite radio or television system comprises a decoder and equipment for accommodating a credit or debit card having a microprocessor, and equipment for cooperating with said microprocessor when the credit or debit card is inserted in an operational position in said receiver / decoder for the purpose of enabling data contained in said credit or debit card to be read and data to be entered into the microprocessor on said credit or debit card. A PIN code can be transmitted to the receiver / decoder securely by means of a remote control which is also described. The invention can be used for television of the type payment per. display, and for telecommunications purchases as well as for telecommunications banking services.
