Data communication system, data communication method, and data communication apparatus

Abstract

A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND A COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL ARE IMPLEMENTED BY CONNECTING THE SOURCE NODE (304) AND ONE OR MORE DESTINATION NODES LOGICALLY, AND CONTROLLING THE DATA COMMUNICATION BETWEEN EACH OF THE NODES BY USE OF THE CONNECTION ID WHEREBY TO IDENTIFY SUCH LOGICAL CONNECTION RELATIONSHIP.ALSO, FOR THE DATA COMMUNICATION USING THE LOGICAL CONNECTION RELATIONSHIP, A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND A COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL ARE IMPLEMENTED BY SETTING OPTIMALLY THE SIZE OF EACH PACKET TRANSFERRED BY THE SOURCE NODE (304) SEQUENTIALLY AND THE SIZE OF THE RECEPTION BUFFER OF EACH DESTINATION NODE (306) EVEN WHEN THE RECEPTION CAPABILITY OF EACH OF THE DESTINATION NODES (306) IS DIFFERENT.(FIG 3)

  1. 1
CLAIMS 1 . A data communication system comprising:a source node (28;302) that transfers object data;one or more destination nodes (60;304) that receives the object data transferred from said source node;and a controller (10;300) that sets a logical connection toetween said source node and said one or more destination nodes , wherein said source node (a) obtains connection i-nformation indicating the logical connection from said controller, (b) sets a segment size in accordance with reception capability of a respective destination node in order to divide the object data into one or more segments, (c) divides the object data into one or more segments in accordance with the segment size, and (d) transfers packets including both data in the one or more segment and the connection information, from said source node to said one or more destination nodes via a serial bus.
  2. 8
A method of transferring object data from a source node (28; 302] to one or more destination nodes (60; 304), said method comprising the steps of:providing connection information indicating a logical connection between the source node and the one or more destination nodes from a controller (10;300] to the source node, the logical connection between source node and the one or more destination nodes being set by the controller;setting a segment size in accordance with reception capability of a respective destination node in order to divide the object data into one or more segments;dividing the object data into one or more segments in accordance with the segment size;and transferring packets including both data in the one or more segment and the connection information, from the source node to the one or more destination nodes via a serial bus.
  3. 12
15, wherein the segment size of each segment is variable. ' 20 . A data communication apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the serial bus conforms to IEBE 1394-1995 standard. 21 . A data communication apparatus according to claim 10 15, wherein the object data includes image data.
