  1. 1
A method comprising:establishing (2301) a unicast Evolved Packet Service, EPS, bearer by a user equipment, UE, (2021) in an LTE network (2000) for group communication, wherein the UE (2021) belongs to a communication group having a group ID;receiving (2302) access information from the network (2000) for monitoring DL multicast traffic of the DL group communication;monitoring (2303) a multicast Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service, MBMS, bearer for receiving the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer;requesting (2304) by the UE (2021) to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer upon detecting that the UE (2021) is approaching an MBMS coverage boundary (2041), characterized in that the UE requests to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer before handover occurs, based on the MBMS coverage boundary (2041) applied by a serving base station being configured to be smaller than a cell coverage boundary (2031) provided by the serving base station.
  2. 2
The method of Claim 1, wherein requesting (2304) to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer is based on an RRC handover-related measurement event trigger indicating that the UE (2021) is approaching a cell coverage boundary (2031).
  3. 3
The method of Claim 1, wherein requesting (2304) to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer is based on a decreased MBMS signal strength indicating that the UE (2021) is approaching the MBMS coverage boundary (2041).
  4. 4
The method of Claim 1, wherein the smaller MBMS coverage boundary (2041) is achieved by limiting a transmit power or an aggressive modulation and coding scheme, MCS.
  5. 5
The method of Claim 1, wherein the UE (2021) continues to use the MBMS bearer if a target cell supports MBMS services based on the MBMS service availability information.
  6. 6
The method of Claim 1, wherein requesting (2304) to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer is carried out by the UE (2021) when there is no MBMS services in neighboring cells.
  7. 7
A User Equipment, UE, (201) comprising:a configuration module (222) adapted to establish a unicast Evolved Packet Service, EPS, bearer in an LTE network (2000) for group communication, wherein the UE (201) belongs to a communication group having a group ID;a receiver (213) adapted to receive access information from the network (2000) for monitoring DL multicast traffic of the DL group communication;a group communication (227) module adapted to monitor a multicast Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service, MBMS, bearer for receiving the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer;a transmitter (213) adapted to send a request to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer upon detecting that the UE is approaching an MBMS coverage boundary (2041), characterized in that the UE is adapted to request to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer before handover occurs, based on the MBMS coverage boundary (2041) applied by a serving base station being configurable to be smaller than a cell coverage boundary (2031) provided by the serving base station.
  8. 9
The UE of Claim 7, wherein the request to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer is adapted to be based on a decreased MBMS signal strength indicating that the UE is approaching the MBMS coverage boundary (2041).
  9. 10
The UE of Claim 7, wherein the UE is adapted to continue to use the MBMS bearer if a target cell is adapted to support MBMS services based on the MBMS service availability information.
  10. 11
The UE of Claim 7, wherein the UE is adapted to request to switch the multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer when there is no MBMS services in neighboring cells.
