Power converter circuitry and method

Abstract

A system is disclosed for controlling a plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power converters. The system includes a sample and hold circuit which is configured to receive information at time-separated intervals. The information the sample and hold circuit receives includes information which is indicative of the performance of the power converters. In some embodiments, the sample and hold circuit takes samples of data from each of the switching power converters and provides information to an analog to digital conversion circuit coupled to the sample and hold circuit. In one embodiment, the plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power are configured to independently provide power to unrelated loads.

Claims of equivalent WO 2004047268 A2 We claim:1. A system for controlling a plurality of pulse- width-modulated switching power converters , the system comprising: a programmable control circuit configured to receive digital information which identifies the topology of each of the switching power converters and an associated target performance of the power converters being controlled by the control circuit, the programmable control circuit receiving information which is indicative of the performance of the power converters and comparing the performance of each power converters with respect to their respective target performance and in response to an identification of a difference between the performance and the target performance executing a program to provide at an output control information to cause a generation of pulse-width modulated signals to make a correction to the operation of the switching power converter .
  2. 2
The system of Claim 1 further comprising a sample and hold circuit coupled to each of the switching power converters and taking samples of data from each of the switching power converters being controlled;and an analog to digital conversion circuit coupled to the output of the sample and hold circuit and an output coupled to the programmable control circuit .
  3. 3
The system according to Claim 1, further comprising a digital pulse control circuit coupled to the output of the programmable control circuit, the digital pulse control circuit, responsive to information received from the programmable control circuit, generating digital signals to control an operation of the plurality of switching power converters .
  4. 4
A system for controlling an operation of a plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power converters, the system comprising:an analog to digital converter having an input for receiving a plurality of samples of analog information from a power converter and providing at an output digital data which is representative of the analog samples;and a control circuit configured to receive digital data from the analog to digital converter and generate responsive thereto digital data for controlling an operation of the power converters .
  5. 5
The system according to Claim 4, further comprising a sample and hold circuit coupled to the plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power converters and to the analog to digital converter.
  6. 6
The system according to Claim 4 , further comprising a digital pulse control circuit coupled to the control circuit, the digital pulse control circuit configured to receive digital data from the control circuit and in response thereto provide signals for controlling an operation of the pulse-width-modulated switching power converters.
  7. 7
A system for controlling an operation of a plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power converters, the system comprising:a sample and hold circuit coupled to the pulse- width-modulated power converters, the sample and hold circuit being configured to receive at a plurality of time-separated sample times information indicative of an operation of the pulse-width-modulated switching power converters .
