Digital signal to pulse converter

Abstract

A system is disclosed for controlling a plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power converters. The system includes a sample and hold circuit which is configured to receive information at time-separated intervals. The information the sample and hold circuit receives includes information which is indicative of the performance of the power converters. In some embodiments, the sample and hold circuit takes samples of data from each of the switching power converters and provides information to an analog to digital conversion circuit coupled to the sample and hold circuit. In one embodiment, the plurality of pulse-width-modulated switching power are configured to independently provide power to unrelated loads.

  1. 1
A digital signal to pulse converter (1201) comprising:a content addressable memory (2494.4) having at least a write port (2428.4) and a read port (2498.4) wherein the write port (2428.4) is operable to write a first set of data into the content addressable memory (2494.4) as stored data, and the read port (2498.4) is operable to receive a second set of data, characterised in that : the write port (2428.4) is further operable to write said first set of data as stored data to two or more address locations in the content addressable memory (2494.4), wherein each of said two or more address locations has a respective control output associated therewith, each of said control outputs being arranged and operable to control generation of a respective one of a plurality of pulses, and the content addressable memory (2494.4) is operable to compare the stored data with the second set of data and, if a match occurs, to provide an output signal to simultaneously determine a beginning or an end of each of the two or more pulses which are respectively controlled by the two or more control outputs associated respectively with said two or more address locations.
  2. 9
A method of generating a pulse, the method comprising:storing a first set of data as stored data in a content addressable memory (2494.4);receiving a second set of data;and comparing the stored data to the second set of data;the method characterised by the steps of: storing said first set of data to two or more address locations in the content addressable memory (2494.4), wherein each of said two or more of address locations has a respective control output associated therewith, each of said control outputs being arranged and operable to control generation of a respective one of a plurality of pulses;and providing an output signal if a match occurs as a result of the comparing of the stored data and the second set of data;wherein said output signal simultaneously determines a beginning or an end of each of the two or more of the pulses which are respectively controlled by the two or more control outputs associated respectively with said two or more address locations.
