Dynamic location of a subordinate user

Abstract

Providing location information to a supervisory user includes providing a parental control, using a computer automatically to determine a location of a subordinate user, and storing location information indicative of the location of the subordinate user in a database. A request of the supervisory user to locate the subordinate user is received and a user interface informs the supervisory user of the location of the subordinate user based on the stored location information. At least one of the storing and/or the informing are based on the parental control.

    WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A method of providing location information, the method comprising: providing a parental control;using a computer automatically to determine a location of a subordinate user;using a database to store location information indicative of the location of the subordinate user;receiving an indication to locate the subordinate user to the supervisory user;and using a user interface to inform the supervisory user of the location of the subordinate user based on the stored location information;wherein the storing and/or the informing are based on the parental control. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein storing further comprises storing location information indicative of past locations of the subordinate user and wherein informing further comprises informing the supervisory user of a past location of the subordinate user. 3. The method of claim 2 wherein storing further comprises storing an indication of the present location of the subordinate user. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the parental control comprises a white list indicative of an online location approved for visitation by the subordinate user. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the parental control comprises a black list indicative of an online location disapproved for visitation by the subordinate user. 6. The method of claim 4 wherein the supervisory user is not informed of the location visited by the subordinate user if the location is included in the white list. 7. The method of claim 4 wherein the supervisory user is informed of the location visited by the subordinate user if the location is included in the black list. 8. The method of claim 4 wherein the supervisory user is informed of the location visited by the subordinate user if the location is not included in the white list. 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the parental control comprises a time constraint on locations visited by the subordinate user. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein the parental control comprises a textual analysis rule. 11. The method of claim 1 wherein the parental control comprises a window definition indicative of a range of location information of which the supervisory user will be informed. 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the range of location information indicated by the window definition includes a predetermined number of the most recent locations visited by the subordinate user. 13. The method of claim 11 wherein the range of location information indicated by the window definition includes locations visited by the subordinate user within a defined period of time. 14. The method of claim 1 wherein the parental control comprises a preference that the supervisory user be informed of an online location most frequently visited by the subordinate user. 15. The method of claim 1 wherein determining comprises determining a physical location. 16. The method of claim 15 wherein the physical location is determined based on information communicated by a global positioning system. 17. The method of claim 15 wherein the location information comprises a physical address. 18. The method of claim 15 wherein the location information comprises a longitude and/or a latitude. 19. The method of claim 15 wherein the location information comprises a name of a physical location. 20. The method of claim 1 wherein determining comprises determining an online location. 21. The method of claim 20 wherein the location information comprises a URL associated with the online location. 22. The method of claim 20 wherein the location information comprises an IP address associated with the online location. 23. The method of claim 20 wherein the location information comprises an internet domain associated with the online location. 24. The method of claim 20 wherein the location information comprises an identification of a device used by the subordinate user to access the online location. 25. The method of claim 20 wherein the location information comprises a television channel and/or television program identification. 26. The method of claim 20 further comprising enabling the supervisory user dynamically to access the online location of the subordinate user based on the location information. 27. The method of claim 1 wherein the supervisory user and the subordinate user are associated through a familial relationship. 28. The method of claim 27 wherein the supervisory user and the subordinate user hold related online accounts. 29. The method of claim 1 wherein the indication to locate the subordinate user to the supervisory user comprises a request of the supervisory user. 30. The method of claim 29 wherein receiving the request of the supervisory user includes receiving an identification of the subordinate user from a contact list of the supervisory user. 31. The method of claim 30 wherein the identification comprises a screen name. 32. The method of claim 1 wherein the indication to locate the subordinate user to the supervisory user comprises an indication that an alert trigger has been satisfied. 33. The method of claim 32 wherein the alert trigger is satisfied based on non- compliance of the subordinate user with the parental control. 34. The method of claim 32 wherein the alert trigger is satisfied based on compliance of the subordinate user with the parental control. 35. The method of claim 32 further comprising providing the supervisory user a notification based on satisfaction of the alert trigger. 36. The method of claim 35 wherein delivery of the notification is based on information indicative of a location of the supervisory user. 37. The method of claim 1 wherein the database is used to store the location information in relation to the subordinate user. 38. The method of claim 1 further comprising: using the computer to determine a changed location of the subordinate user;using the database to update the stored location information based on the changed location;and using the user interface to inform the supervisory user of the changed location based on the updated stored location information. 39. The method of claim 38 wherein informing the supervisory user of the changed location comprises refreshing the information of which the supervisory user is informed based on a predetermined interval. 40. The method of claim 1 further comprising enabling the supervisory user to communicate with the subordinate user in relation to a location visited by the subordinate user. 41. The method of claim 40 wherein the communication between the supervisory user and the subordinate user is enabled using an instant message. 42. The method of claim 40 wherein the communication between the supervisory user and the subordinate user is enabled using an email. 43. The method of claim 40 wherein the communication between the supervisory user and the subordinate user is enabled using a voice communication. 44. A computer program stored on a computer readable medium or a propagated signal for providing location information, the computer program comprising: a control code segment that causes a computer to access a parental control;a location code segment that causes the computer automatically to determine a location of a subordinate user;a database code segment that causes the computer to store location information indicative of the location of the subordinate user;an indication code segment that causes the computer to receive an indication to locate the subordinate user to the supervisory user;and an interface code segment that causes the computer to inform the supervisory user of the location of the subordinate user based on the stored location information;wherein the storing and/or the informing are based on the parental control. 45. The computer program of claim 44 wherein: the database code segment is configured further to cause the computer to store location information indicative of past locations of the subordinate user;and the interface code segment is configured further to cause the computer to inform the supervisory user of a past location of the subordinate user. 46. The computer program of claim 45 wherein the database code segment is configured further to cause the computer to store an indication of the present location of the subordinate user. 47. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the control code segment causes the computer to access a white list of the parental control that indicates a location approved for visitation by the subordinate user. 48. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the control code segment causes the computer to access a black list of the parental control that indicates a location disapproved for visitation by the subordinate user. 49. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the control code segment causes the computer to access through the parental control a time constraint on locations visited by the subordinate user. 50. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the control code segment causes the computer to access a textual analysis rule of the parental control. 51. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the control code segment causes the computer to access through the parental control a window definition indicative of a range of location information of which the supervisory user will be informed. 52. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the control code segment causes the computer to access through the parental control a preference that the supervisory user be informed of an online location most frequently visited by the subordinate user. 53. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the location code segment causes the computer to determine a physical location of the subordinate user. 54. The computer program of claim 53 wherein the location code segment further causes the computer to determine the physical location based on information communicated by a global positioning system. 55. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the location code segment causes the computer to determine an online location of the subordinate user. 56. The computer program of claim 55 wherein the location code segment causes the computer to determine the location information based on a television channel and/or a television program identification. 57. The computer program of claim 55 wherein the location codes segment further comprises an access code segment that causes the computer to enable the supervisory user dynamically to access the online location of the subordinate user based on the location information. 58. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the parental control accessed by the control code segment is related to a familial relationship of the supervisory user and the subordinate user. 59. The computer program of claim 58 wherein the parental control accessed by the control code segment is associated with online accounts of the supervisory user and the subordinate user that are related. 60. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the indication code segment comprises a request code segment that causes the computer to receive a request of the supervisory user to locate the subordinate user. 61. The computer program of claim 60 wherein the request code segment further causes the computer to receive an identification of the subordinate user from a contact list of the supervisory user. 62. The computer program of claim 44 wherein the indication code segment causes the computer to receive an indication that an alert trigger has been satisfied. 63. The computer program of claim 62 further comprising a notification code segment that causes the computer to provide the supervisory user with a notification based on the indication that the alert trigger has been satisfied. 64. The computer program of claim 44 wherein: the location code segment further causes the computer to determine a changed location of the subordinate user;the database code segment further causes the computer to update the stored location information based on the changed location;and the interface code segment further causes the computer to inform the supervisory user of the changed location based on the updated stored location information. 65. The computer program of claim 44 further comprising a communication code segment that causes the computer to enable the supervisory user to communicate with the subordinate user in relation to a location visited by the subordinate user. 66. The computer program of claim 65 wherein the communication code segment causes the computer to enable the supervisory user to communicate with the subordinate user based on an electronic message. 67. A system for providing location information, the system comprising: a control module for accessing a parental control;a location module for determining a location of a subordinate user;a database for storing location information indicative of the location of the subordinate user;an indication module for receiving an indication to locate the subordinate user to the supervisory user;and an interface for informing the supervisory user of the location of the subordinate user based on the stored location information;wherein the storing and/or the informing are based on the parental control. 68. The system of claim 67 wherein: the database stores location information indicative of past locations of the subordinate user;and the interface informs the supervisory user of a past location of the subordinate user. 69. The system of claim 68 wherein the database stores an indication of the present location of the subordinate user. 70. The system of claim 67 wherein the control module accesses a white list of the parental control that indicates a location approved for visitation by the subordinate user. 71. The system of claim 67 wherein the control module accesses a black list of the parental control that indicates a location disapproved for visitation by the subordinate user. 72. The system of claim 67 wherein the parental control accessed by the control module includes a time constraint on locations visited by the subordinate user. 73. The system of claim 67 wherein the control module accesses a textual analysis rule of the parental control. 74. The system of claim 67 wherein the parental control accessed by the control module includes a window definition indicative of a range of location information of which the supervisory user desires to be informed. 75. The system of claim 67 wherein the parental control accessed by the control module includes an indication that the supervisory user be informed of an online location most frequently visited by the subordinate user. 76. The system of claim 67 wherein the location module determines a physical location of the subordinate user. 77. The system of claim 76 wherein the location module further comprises a GPS interface for determining the physical location based on information communicated by a global positioning system. 78. The system of claim 67 wherein the location module determines an online location of the subordinate user. 79. The system of claim 78 wherein the location module determines the location information based on a television channel and/or a television program identification. 80. The system of claim 78 wherein the location module further comprises an access module for enabling the supervisory user dynamically to access the online location of the subordinate user based on the location information. 81. The system of claim 67 wherein the parental control accessed by the control module is related to a familial relationship of the supervisory user and the subordinate user. 82. The system of claim 81 wherein the parental control accessed by the control module is associated with an online account of the supervisory user and an online account of the subordinate user that are related. 83. The system of claim 67 wherein the indication module comprises a request module for receiving a request of the supervisory user to locate the subordinate user. 84. The system of claim 83 wherein the request module further receives an identification of the subordinate user from a contact list of the supervisory user. 85. The system of claim 67 wherein the indication module also receives an indication that an alert trigger has been satisfied. 86. The system of claim 85 further comprising a notification module for providing the supervisory user with a notification based on the indication that the alert trigger has been satisfied. 87. The system of claim 67 wherein: the location module also determines a changed location of the subordinate user;the database also updates the stored location information based on the changed location;and the interface also informs the supervisory user of the changed location based on the updated stored location information. 88. The system of claim 67 further comprising a communication module for enabling the supervisory user to communicate with the subordinate user in relation to a location visited by the subordinate user. 89. The system of claim 88 wherein the communication module enables the supervisory user to communicate with the subordinate user based on an electronic message.
