The facilities of the service are that public telephones are able to pay for the service in question using various types of cards, such as credit, prepaid, telephone subscriber , multiservice card, etc., etc.
The modular public telephone management system of the present invention is essentially comprised of the following elements:
A.- TMs (Modular Payphones).
B. - UVIs (Modular Public Telephone Identification and Validation Units).
C. - UA31M (Modular Payphone Adaptation Unit).
D. - SETM (Modular Payphone Operating System).
E. - FVC (Credit Card Validation and Billing Center and Modular Payphone Telephone Subscriber Cards).
F. - Maintenance unit of the validation and identification units of modular public telephones.
Communication between the different elements of the system takes place through two different communication protocols.
The first of these protocols is used for connections made over the Switched Telephone Network (RTC over a V.23 modem at 1,200 bits per second.
The second protocol is used for connections via the switched packet network (IBERPAC), according to X.25 at 2,400 bits per second.
The second protocol can also be used for IBERPAC connections, with real call establishment, according to X.25 and at speeds higher than those used for the two protocols previously mentioned.
The Modular Payphone Management System has a hierarchical structure at the provincial and national level, with the Modular Payphone Operating System (SETM) the highest hierarchy at the provincial level and the card validation and billing center.
<img file="PT97386B_D0004.tif" />
credit and modular public telephone (FVC) subscriber cards to the highest hierarchy at national level.
Modular payphones (TMs) are smart payphones that support coin, prepay, credit card, and subscriber card payment methods.
Modular Payphone Identification and Validation Units (UVIs) are used to connect Modular Payphones (TMs), and each unit can connect up to 16 Modular Payphones in modules of 2 Modular Payphones.
The main functions of modular telephone identification and validation units, ie UVIs, are as follows:
- Identify to authorize the connection of modular public telephones to the Switched Telephone Network.
- If the terminal being identified is not a modular public telephone (TM), the validation and identification unit (UVI) will prevent it from connecting to the Switched Telephone Network (RTC).
