System and method for determining the position of a wireless CDMA transceiver

Abstract

A method and system for determining the position of a mobile wireless transceiver. A base station receives a first signal transmitted from a first GPS satellite and a second signal transmitted from a second GPS satellite. A wireless transceiver in wireless communication with said base station receives the first and second signals and transmits a third signal to the base station in response thereto. The third signal is received at the base station and the position of the wireless transceiver is calculated in response thereto. A distance between the wireless transceiver and the base station is then determined.

Positioning of a Transmitter / Receiver in a Wireless CDMA Category Network

System and method for determining the position of a movable wireless station comprising a transmitter / receiver, the station being in particular a mobile telephone (20). A Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to achieve precise positioning in dense urban environments and other places where the free view of satellites (60, 70, 80, 90) may be disturbed. Only two such satellites (60, 70, 80.90) for GPS are used with an operating base station (10) on the ground. Generally, a first signal in the base station (10) is received from a first satellite, and a second signal is received from a second satellite.

A transmitter portion (200) of the mobile telephone (10) and a receiver portion (100) of the same are arranged to transmit / receive these GPS signals and furthermore transmit a third signal to the base station (10) in response to the reception. The base station (10) receives the third signal and uses this to calculate the position of the device or mobile phone (20).
