  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2005066793 A2 IT IS CLAIMED:1. In a nonvolatile memory organized into blocks, each block partitioned into memory units that are erasable together, each memory unit for storing a logical unit of data, a method of storing and updating data comprising: organizing data into a plurality of logical groups, each logical group being a group of logical units;receiving host data packaged in logical units;storing in a first block a first version of logical units of a logical group according to a first order;and storing in a second block including subsequent versions of said logical units latest versions of logical units according to a second order different from the first;and in response to a predefined triggering event, storing in a third block a directory of logical units stored in the second block since a latest triggering event.
  2. 7
The method as in any one of claims 1-6, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores one bit of data.
  3. 8
The method as in any one of claims 1-6, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores more than one bit of data.
  4. 9
In a nonvolatile memory organized into blocks, each block partitioned into memory units that are erasable together, each memory unit for storing a logical unit of data, a method of storing and updating data comprising:organizing data into a plurality of logical groups, each logical group being a group of logical units;receiving host data packaged in logical units;storing in a first block a first version of logical units according to a first order;and storing in a second block including subsequent versions of said logical units latest versions of logical units according to a second order different from the first;and storing in response to a predefined triggering event in an available location ofthe second block a directory of logical units stored in the second block since a latest triggering event.
  5. 15
The method as in any one of claims 9-14, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores one bit of data.
  6. 16
The method as in any one of claims 9-14, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores more than one bit of data.
  7. 17
In a nonvolatile memory organized into blocks, each block partitioned into memory units that are erasable together, each memory unit for storing a logical unit of data, a method of storing and updating data comprising:storing logical units in a first block;storing in response to a predefined triggering event in a portion ofthe nonvolatile memory a directory of logical units hitherto in the first block;providing a header portion for each logical unit;and for intermediate logical units being stored in the block since a latest predefined triggering event, storing a directory ofthe intermediate logical units in the header portion of each said intermediate logical units.
  8. 22
The method as in any one of claims 17-21, wherem said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores one bit of data.
  9. 23
The method as in any one of claims 17-21, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores more than one bit of data.
  10. 24
In a nonvolatile memory organized into blocks, each block partitioned into memory units that are erasable together, each memory unit for storing a logical unit of data, a method of storing and updating data comprising:organizing data into a plurality of logical groups, each logical group being a group of logical units;receiving host data packaged in logical units;storing in a first block a first version of logical units according to a first order;and storing in a second block including subsequent versions of said logical units latest versions of logical units according to a second order different from the first;providing a header portion for each logical unit;and storing directory data in said header portion of each logical units being stored in the second block, said directory data for logical units stored in the second block.
  11. 29
The method as in any one of claims 24-28, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores one bit of data.
  12. 30
The method as in any one of claims 24-28, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores more than one bit of data.
  13. 31
hi a nonvolatile memory organized into blocks, each block partitioned into memory units that are erasable together, each memory unit for storing a logical unit of data, a method of storing and updating data comprising:organizing data into a plurality of logical groups, each logical group being a group of logical units;receiving host data packaged in logical units;storing in a first block a first version of logical units of a logical group according to a first order;and storing in a second block including subsequent versions of said logical units latest versions of logical units according to a second order, wherein said logical units stored having a first subgroup similar in order to said first order and a second subgroup in different order to said first order;and maintaining a directory for said second subgroup of logical units in a portion of said non-volatile memory.
  14. 36
The method as in any one of claims 31-35, wherein said nonvolatile memory has memory cells that each stores one bit of data.
