Tamper-Evident slider bag

Abstract

A plastic bag (10) comprises opposing body panels (12,14) fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides and a bottom bridging the pair of sides. A reclosable zipper (22) extending along a mouth portion formed opposite the sealed bottom of the plastic bag (10). The zipper (22) is preferably free of graspable upper pull flanges in order to best accommodate a slider and inhibit operation of the zipper (22) without the slider (32). The slider (32) is mounted to the zipper (22) for movement between a closed position and an open position. The zipper (22) is closed while the slider (32) is in the closed position. The zipper (22) is opened in response to movement of the slider (32) to the open position. To inhibit tampering with the contents of the bag (10), the bag (10) includes a tamper-evident feature (120).

15 claims: 7 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
A tamper-evident slider (32) bag, comprising:first and second opposing body panels (12, 14) fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides (16, 18) and a bottom (20) bridging said pair of sides (16, 18);a reclosable zipper (22) extending along a mouth formed opposite said bottom (20);a slider (32) slidably mounted to said zipper (22) for movement between a closed position and an open position, said zipper (22) being closed while said slider (32) is in said closed position, said zipper (22) being opened in response to movement of said slider (32) to said open position;anda removable tamper-evident member (120) initially extending over said zipper (22) and coupled to said opposing body panels (12, 14), said tamper-evident member (120) being initially positioned so as to initially obstruct access to an interior of the bag, said slider (32) capable of being moved from said closed position to said open position in response to said tamper-evident member (120) being removed from said bag along an area of weakness below said zipper (22), so as to open said zipper (22) and access contents of the bag.
  2. 4
The bag of at least one of the foregoing claims, wherein said area of weakness has a length that is less than a length of said zipper (22).
  3. 5
The bag of at least one of the foregoing claims, wherein said area of weakness extends along said tamper-evident member (120).
  4. 6
The bag of at least one of the foregoing claims, wherein said tamper-evident member (120) extends above said slider (32).
  5. 7
The bag of at least one of the foregoing claims, wherein said tamper-evident member (120) is integrally connected to said opposing body panels (12, 14).
  6. 8
The bag of at least one of the foregoing claims, wherein said tamper-evident member (120) includes first and second member panels (120a, 120b) connected to each other at uppermost portions.
  7. 12
A method of accessing contents in a bag, said bag including first and second opposing body panels (12, 14) and a reclosable zipper (22) extending along a bag mouth formed by said body panels (12, 14), said zipper (22) having a slider (32) slidably mounted to said zipper (22) for movement between a closed position wherein said zipper (22) is interlocked and an open position wherein said zipper (22) is unlocked, said zipper (22) including a rib profile (24) and a groove profile (28), making it difficult to gain access to an interior of the bag prior to breaking and/or removing a tamper-evident member (120) via an area of weakness located below said zipper (22), and moving the slider (32) on the zipper (22) to an open position, whereby access to the contents of the bag is permitted after the breaking and/or removing of the tamper-evident member (120).
