  1. 1
An Access Point, AP, (12) comprising:a processor (20);a memory (22) in communication with said processor (20);a receiver (24) in communication with said processor (20) and with a shared communications channel (32);and a transmitter (26) in communication with said processor (20) and with said shared communications channel (32), wherein said transmitter (26) includes: a legacy power saving buffer (28) for each non-Automatic Power Save Delivery, APSD, station (14) of a Wireless Local Area Network, WLAN, (10) said AP (12) is in communication with, at least one APSD buffer (30) for each APSD enabled station (14) of said WLAN (10), characterized in that said at least one APSD buffer (30) for each APSD enabled station (14) further comprises one APSD buffer (30) for multiple Access Categories, ACs, for each APSD enabled station (14), and wherein, during a service period, frames from a single APSD buffer (30) are transmitted by said transmitter (26) across said shared communications channel (32) to an APSD enabled station (14), and wherein that said service period is ended by said AP when the AC corresponding to the next frame to be released changes.
  2. 7
A method of providing delivery of buffered frames in a Wireless Local Area Network, WLAN, (10) comprising:determining an occurrence of at least one non-Automatic Power Save Delivery, APSD, station (14) in said WLAN (10), and when at least one non-APSD station (14) is found, then maintaining a legacy power saving buffer (28) for each non-APSD station (14);determining an occurrence of at least one APSD station (14) in said WLAN (10), and when at least one APSD station (14) is found, then maintaining at least one APSD buffer (30) for each APSD enabled station (14);characterized in that the method comprises: maintaining one APSD buffer (30) for multiple ACs for each APSD enabled station (14);and transmitting, during a service period, frames from a single APSD buffer (30) and ending a service period when the AC corresponding to the next frame to be released changes.
