  1. 1
A method of conveying priority of buffered frames to power saving stations (14) that save battery life by alternating between powering their radio off and on, in a Wireless Local Area Network, WLAN, (10) including an Access Point ,AP, (12) and at least one power saving station (14), characterized in that the method comprises:indicating to a power saving station (14): the presence of at least one buffered frame in Automatic Power Save Delivery, APSD, buffers in the AP (12) for the power saving station (14);a priority of the buffered frames;and the queue size of the buffered frames, receiving an indication from the power saving station (14) that the power saving station (14) is ready to receive at least one of the buffered frames for the power saving station (14);selecting a buffer for releasing at least one said buffered frame to the power saving station (14);determining a number of frames to transmit from the selected buffer;and transmitting said number of frames from said buffer to said power saving station (14).
  2. 4
The method of any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein said indicating is done by at least one of transmitting a Traffic Indicator Map, TIM, and transmitting a More Data Bit indicating that there are more buffered frames for the power saving station, in a downlink frame.
  3. 5
The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said transmitting is performed using Unscheduled APSD for non-periodic traffic.
  4. 8
The method of any one of claims 5 to 7 wherein said using Unscheduled APSD for non-periodic traffic is performed when an Access Category, AC, of the traffic has an admitted APSD Traffic Specification, TSPEC.
  5. 9
The method of any preceding claim wherein said receiving an indication comprises receiving a trigger frame.
  6. 10
The method of any preceding claim wherein, when there is a single TIM, said transmitting frames comprises transmitting frames from a buffer associated with an AC which is different than the AC associated with the trigger frame.
  7. 12
An Access Point, AP (12), comprising:a processor (20);a memory (22) in communication with said processor (20);a receiver (24) in communication with said processor (20) and with a shared communications channel (32);and a transmitter (26) in communication with said processor (20) and with said shared communications channel (32);characterized in that said access point comprises : at least one Automatic Power Save Delivery, APSD, buffer (30) in communication with said transmitter (26), wherein said AP (12) indicates to a power saving station (14) that saves battery life by alternating between powering its radio off and on, the presence of at least one buffered frame in the APSD buffers (30) in the AP (12) for the power saving station (14);a priority of the buffered frames;and the queue size of the buffered frames;and wherein in response to receiving at said receiver (24) an indication from the power saving station (14) that the power saving station (14) is ready to receive at least one of the buffered frames for the power saving station (14), a buffer is selected for releasing at least one said buffered frame to the power saving station (14), a number of frames to transmit from the selected buffer is determined and said number of frames are transmitted by said transmitter (26) from said buffer to said power saving station (14).
  8. 15
The AP (12) of any one of claims 12 to 14 wherein said AP (12) indicates the presence of buffered frames by at least one of transmitting a Traffic Indicator Map, TIM, and transmitting a More Data Bit indicating that there are more buffered frames for the power saving station, in a downlink frame.
  9. 16
The AP (12) of any one of claims 12 to 15 wherein said number of frames are transmitted using Unscheduled APSD for non-periodic traffic.
  10. 19
The AP (12) of any one of claims 16 to 18 wherein said AP (12) performs Unscheduled APSD for non-periodic traffic when an Access Category, AC, of the traffic has an admitted APSD Traffic Specification, TSPEC.
  11. 20
The AP (12) of any one of claims 12 to 19 wherein said receiving an indication comprises receiving a trigger frame at said receiver (24).
