  1. 1
An apparatus for up-conversion of phase-modulated IQ signals, characterised by :at least one first switch module (1822, 2802) that receives at least a first phase-modulated oscillating signal (1820, 2804) and a first bias signal (2806), wherein said first phase-modulated oscillating signal (1820, 2804) causes said at least one first switch module (1822, 2802) to gate said first bias signal (2806), and thereby generate a first periodic signal (1824, 2814) having a first plurality of harmonics;at least one second switch module (1828, 2802) that receives at least a second phase-modulated oscillating signal (1826, 2804) and a second bias signal (2806), wherein said second phase-modulated oscillating signal (1826, 2804) causes said at least one second switch module (1828, 2802) to gate said second bias signal (1826), and thereby generate a second periodic signal (1830, 2814) having a second plurality of harmonics;a summer (1832) that combines said first periodic signal (1824) and said second periodic signal (1830) to thereby generate a combined periodic signal (1834) having a combined plurality of harmonics;and at least one filter (1836) that receives said combined periodic signal (1834), wherein said at least one filter (1836) isolates at least one harmonic of said combined plurality of harmonics.
  2. 5
A method of up-conversion of phase-modulated IQ signals, characterised by the steps of:gating a first bias signal (1820, 2804) according to a first phase-modulated oscillating signal (2806) to generate a first harmonically rich signal (1824, 2814);gating a second bias signal (1826, 2804) according to a second phase-modulated oscillating signal (2806) to generate a second harmonically rich signal (1830, 2814);summing said first (1824) and second (1830) harmonically rich signals to form a combined harmonically rich signal (1834);filtering from said combined harmonically rich signal (1834) any undesired harmonics and transmitting the combined and filtered harmonically rich signal (1834) using an antenna.
