13 claims: 6 independent, 7 dependent

  1. 1
A radioactive composition for use in therapy and as a surgical aid, containing radioisotopes immobilized on biocompatible or bioabsorbable solid particles obtainable from separately produced solid particles, on which the said radioisotopes are subsequently immobilized by chelation, or obtainable from particles that already incorporate the non-radioactive chemical element corresponding to the desired radioisotope and which particles are then irradiated in a nuclear reactor under neutron flux to obtain the said radioisotopes, characterised in that the said solid particles are incorporated in a biocompatible and bioabsorbable matrix consisting of a hypotonic gel containing, in water, from 2 to 30% by weight of polyvinylpyrrolidone and from 0.01 to 2% by weight of agar-agar or agarose.
  2. 4
A composition according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein the said solid particles are chosen among bioinert particles made of ion exchange resins and bioabsorbable particles made of poly(lactic acid).
  3. 5
A composition according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein the said particles have diameters in the range from 0.01 µm to 100 µm.
  4. 6
A composition according to any one of the previous claims, wherein the said radioisotopes are beta- and/or gamma-emitting radioisotopes.
  5. 9
A radiopharmaceutical kit or a kit for use in radio-guided surgery comprising a first component containing biocompatible or bioabsorbable solid particles chosen among bioinert particles made of ion exchange resins and bioabsorbable particles made of poly(lactic acid), and a second component consisting of a hypotonic gel containing, in water, from 2 to 30% by weight of polyvinylpyrrolidone and from 0.01 to 2% by weight of agar-agar or agarose.
  6. 12
A kit according to any one of claims 9-11, wherein the average molecular weight (MW) of said polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is in the range from 50,000 to 400,000.
