Elongate thin-film reader.

Abstract

A manuscript reader comprises an amorphous silicon film (6) sandwiched between at least one transparent electrode (7) and a plurality of metal electrodes (5) formed on an insulating substrate (8). If the reader includes a plurality of sensors, the detection circuitry can vary a comparison threshold level during the course of one scanning operation.

  1. 1
A manuscript reader including an insulating substrate, a plurality of first electrodes formed over said substrate, a photoconductive film of amorphous silicon formed over each of said first electrodes so as partially to cover one end portion of each first electrode, a plurality of conductive thin film second electrodes each covering a different block of first electrodes, said first and/or second electrodes being transparent, so that a plurality of photosensitive devices arranged in a number of blocks is provided, and a detection circuit for detecting the conductive state of the photosensitive elements, characterised in that said detection circuit includes means for supplying an independently settable reference level for each of the blocks whereby differences in the sensitivity of the photosensitive elements in the respective blocks can be compensated for.
