EP0113612A2

Address conversion unit for multiprocessor system.

Abstract

An address conversion unit for a multiprocessor system including a common memory, and in which at least one processor includes a private memory, with the private memory and common memory having separate and distinct memory spaces. The conversion unit converts addresses between private addresses that are used within the processor itself and addresses that are used to retrieve contents of locations in common memory.

  1. 1
An address conversion unit for connection to a data processing system including a plurality of processors and a common memory all connected by a system interconnection means, the common memory having a plurality of addressable storage locations having addresses and the system interconnection means including means for tranferring addresses, at least one of the processors including a processing means and a local memory both being connected to a local interconnection means, the private memory having a plurality of addressable storage locations also having addresses, the address conversion unit comprising:A. a plurality of registers each storing a value that identifies a set of consecutively addressed locations in the common memory;B. means for receiving an address from the processor unit, the address having a first portion that identifies one of said registers and a second portion;C. means for retrieving the contents of the register identified by the first'portion of the received address;D. means for appending the second portion of said address to the retrieved register contents thereby forming an address for the common memory;and E. means for transmitting the formed address to the common memory to initiate a transaction therewith.
