EP0249345A2

Data packet shortening method and device.

Abstract

A data packet shortening method for shortening data packets passed between first and second devices. The data packets include address data which is sent from the first device to the second device and returned to the first device unchanged. The address data is temporarily stored at an address of a memory device, and the address data and the address of that data in the memory device is sent from the first device to the second device. When it is necessary to communicate the address data from the second device to the first device a data packet is sent which includes the address of that data in the memory device but does not include the actual address data. The required address data is derived by the first device from the address of that data in the memory device.

  1. 1
A data packet shortening method for shortening data packets passed between first and second devices which data packets include address data which is sent from the first device to the second device and returned to the first device unchanged, wherein the said address data is temporarily stored at an address of a memory device, the said address data and the address of that data in the memory device is sent as a data packet from the first device to the second device, when it is necessary to communicate the said address data from the second device to the first device a data packet is sent which includes the said address of that data but does not include the said address data, and the said address data is derived by the first device from the said address of that data in the memory device.
  2. 2
A data packet shortening device comprising first and second devices between which data packets are passed which include address data that is sent from the first device to the second device and returned to the first device unchanged, a memory device, means for temporarily storing the said address data at an address of the memory device, means for sending the said. address data and the address of that data in the memory device as a data packet from the first device to the second device, means for detecting when it is necessary to communicate the said address data from the second device to the first device, means for sending a data packet which includes the said address of that data but does not include the said address data from the second device to the first device, the first device comprising means for deriving the said address data from the said address of that data in the memory device.
