Process for producing polyhydroxyalkanoate crystal

Abstract

A process by which a biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoate is easily obtained through solvent extraction. The process, which is for producing polyhydroxyalkanoate crystals, is characterized in that a C4-10 monohydric alcohol is used as an extraction solvent and that a polyhydroxyalkanoate solution containing water in an amount of 0.1 to 10 wt.% based on the total amount of the solution is kept at a temperature not lower than 70~C and then cooled to a temperature lower than 70~C to thereby precipitate crystals of the polyhydroxyalkanoate.

CA 02544584 2006-05-02 CLAIMS 1. A method for producing a polyhydroxyalkanoate crystal which comprises precipitating a polyhydroxyalkanoate crystal using a monohydric alcohol having 4 to 10 carbon atoms as a extraction solvent, keeping a polyhydroxyalkanoate solution containing 0.1 to 10% by weight of water relative to the total amount of the solution warm at 70°C or higher, and cooling the solution to below 70°C.
