Be it known that I, Joseph H. Ramsey, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, in the county of Albany and State of 5 New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket GameBoards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to game boards, and 10 its object is to provide an improved device for games played with movable pieces, the device being provided with suitable receptacles in which the pieces are stored when not in use. A further object is to provide 15 a sheet metal gameboard which can be folded into compact form for carrying in the pocket. To these and other ends the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described.

One form of the invention is illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the gameboard folded for the pocket.

The device shown comprises two sheet 30 metal halves in the form of flat, shallow receptacles 10, hinged along one edge and of rectangular form, approximately twice . as long as wide, so that when they are opened out into the same plane they will form a 35 complete square, as in Fig. 2.

On the pintle 11, which constitutes the pivot of the hinge, are pivoted two sheet metal lids, 12, for the two receptacles. The upper surface of the lids is painted, printed 40 or otherwise figured to form a game board, as for example a checkerboard as shown in Fig. 2, and the lids are formed with shallow depressions, as 13, to receive the pieces 14, which in the present instance are in the form 45 of hollow disks made of sheet metal, with depressed tops and with their bottoms shaped to fit into the depressions 13.

pieces are stored in the receptacles in the two halves or leaves of the device and the 50 latter are folded or closed down upon each other as in Fig. 1. To hold the two parts together in closed position against accidental opening the free edge of each is provided with a spring finger, as 15, to snap 55 over the edge of the other leaf, as in Fig. 1. The lugs are bent slightly inward, to form inwardly disposed ribs 16, and the adjacent edges of the lids 12 are provided with spring lugs 17, which snap under the ribs 16 to hold 60 the lids closed upon the storage receptacles, as clearly shown in n ig. 3. Finger recesses 18 are cut in the edges of the lids, into which the finger nail may be inserted to raise the lids for access to the pieces, 14, below. 65

In the device illustrated only the alternate squares of the playing surface are provided with depressions for the game of draughts or checkers. For playing chess all the squares can be provided with depres- 70 sions and the pieces can be marked on top with conventional representations of chessmen.

It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the construction herein spe- 75 cifically illustrated and described, but can be embodied in other forms without departure from its spirit as defined by the appended claim.
