Technical area
The present invention relates to a rail brake for a rail vehicle bogie, comprising wheel kits stored in longitudinal side frames connected by a transverse bolster, which comprises a brake brake with transverse braking actuators and connecting push rods, each brake boom having a suspension bracket and a suspension bracket having a suspension block.
Background of the invention
Arc brakes of the above type are well known in the art. An example is shown in WO 00/02756 from the same applicant. In such a bogie brake, the brake booms are normally suspended at substantially the same height or level as the center of the wheels to be braked. This means that also the push rods are at the corresponding level and in turn that difficulties can arise with the presence of the bolster between the two brake booms. If necessary, the bolster may be provided with holes for free passage of the push rods, but such holes are not always a satisfactory solution to the problem.
The main object of the invention is to provide a bogie brake where the push rods can pass the padding without any holes therein, although the padding extends to a rather low level, as is the case with some bogie designs.
The invention
This is achieved according to the invention in that each suspension link is pivotally connected to an associated brake pad holder at a level substantially corresponding to an associated wheel center and at a lower level to its boom.
Through this solution, the push rods can pass under the bolster, although this has a considerable height.

In a practical construction, the side block plates of the brake block holder are provided with mounting bases for receiving a fastening screw which holds the brake block holder together and pivotally stores the suspension link through a hole therein.
Furthermore, a mounting block is provided at the end of the brake bar and the suspension link has a hole for a continuous mounting screw for attachment to the mounting block.
The suspension link is hereby pivotally mounted on a mounting sleeve which is secured to the end of the boom by means of the mounting screw.
An outer side plate of the block holder has an opening to allow access to the mounting screw.
The drawings
The invention will be described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1-3 are a side view, plan view and end view respectively of a rail vehicle bogie provided with a bogie brake according to the invention, Figures 4 and 5 are a side view and plan view of the bogie brake according to the invention. on a larger scale and Figures 6 and 7 are a side view and end view respectively of a portion of the bogie brake on an even larger scale.
Detailed description of a preferred embodiment
As most clearly shown in Fig. 2 but also in Figs. 1 and 3, a conventional rail vehicle bogie for two wheelsets 1 with wheels 2 has two side frames 3, in which the wheelsets are stored and which are connected by means of a transverse bolster 4, in which a the chassis shown on the vehicle is stored.
Referring again mainly to Fig. 2 but also Figs. 1 and 3, a bogie brake for this bogie consists primarily of two brake booms 5 and 6, which are suspended from the bolster 4 by means of suspension links 7. Each brake boom 5 and 6 are provided at each end. with a brake pad holder 8 to be provided with a removable brake pad

020516 LW E: \ PUBLIC \ DOC \ P \ 1442057s.doc (Fig. 6) for cooperation with the respective track of the wheels 2.
The first brake boom 5 is provided with two brake actuators or brake units 10, preferably at their ends. Each brake unit 10 is provided with a brake force applying push rod 11, connected to the second brake boom 6.
When supplying pressurized brake fluid (compressed air) to the brake units 10, a braking force is applied to the wheels 2 via the two brake booms 5, 6, the push rods 11, the brake block holders 8 and the brake blocks 9.
As most clearly illustrated in Fig. 6, each brake boom 5 and 6 consists essentially of a U-shaped plate profile with stiffening flanges, and the brake units 10 are secured to the U by bolts 10 'in the first brake boom 5. The push rods 11 extend from the brake units 10 through bores in the first brake bar 5. The connection of the push rods 11 to the second brake bar 6 is shown to the right in Fig. 4 but does not form part of the invention.
Each brake pad holder 8 is pivotally mounted at the end of its respective brake bar 5, 6. This is most clearly illustrated in Fig. 7 with the first brake bar 5.
The boom 5 has an end plate 12 and a cross plate 13. A mounting block 14 is attached to the plates 12 and 13. The suspension link 7 is pivotally mounted on a mounting sleeve 15 which is secured to the mounting block 14 by means of a mounting screw 16. By this arrangement the suspension link 7 pivotally attached to the end of the brake boom 5.
The brake pad holder 8 is mainly made up of side plates 17, attachment bases 18, 19 in the side plates and a fastening screw 20 which holds the brake pad holder and also the suspension link 7 through a hole therein. The outer side plate 17 is provided with an opening 17 'in its lower part to allow access to the mounting screw 16 for the suspension link 7.

The suspension link 7 is also provided with a shaft 21 with spring-loaded friction rings 22 in engagement with the inner surfaces of the side plates 17 to hold the brake block holder 8 in a position reached in a previous brake application.
The retaining screw 20 for the brake pad holder 8 is substantially at the same level as the center of the wheel 2 to be braked, while the mounting screw 16 for the suspension link 7 at the boom 5 or 6 is at a lower level. This means that the booms 5 and 6 will be suspended at a lower level than the center of the wheels 2 and thus that the push rods 11 will extend at a corresponding lower level. The effect of this is - as illustrated in Fig. 3 - that the push rods 11 can extend under the bolster 4 and that no holes for the push rods 11 in the bolster 4 are thus required.
