A bogie brake
Abstract
A rail vehicle bogie comprises whell sets (1) journalled in longitudinal side frames (3) connected by a transverse bolster (4). A bogie brake therefore compriese transverse brake beams (5, 6) with brake actuators (10) and connecting push rods (11), each brake beam having at each end a brake block holder (8) and being suspended by suspension links (7). Each suspension link (7) is pivotably connected to an assocaited brake block holder (8) at a level substantially corresponding to the center of an associated wheel (2) and at a lower level to its beam (5, 6).

The present invention relates to the brake of a bogie, in particular a rail vehicle.
The brakes of bogies of the above type are known in the art. For example, from International Patent Application Publication No. WO 00/02757 by the same applicant. In such a bogie brake, the brake beams are usually suspended at substantially the same height or level as the center of the braked wheels. This means that the pushrods are at the correct level, but difficulties arise in turn with the presence of a cross member between the two brake bars. If necessary, the cross member may be provided with openings for the free passage of the pushers, such openings not always a satisfactory solution to the problem.
The main object of the present invention is to make a bogie brake in which the push rods can pass through the bolster without the need for any holes even when the bolster extends rather to a low level, as is the case with some bogie designs.
A bogie brake according to the present invention, especially intended for a rail vehicle, the bogie having wheel sets mounted in longitudinal side frames connected to a cross member, includes cross brake beams with brake actuation devices and connecting tappets, each brake beam having a handle at each end. brake pad and is suspended by means of suspension fasteners, and is characterized by that each suspension link is pivotally connected to its associated brake pad holder at a level corresponding to the center of its associated wheel and at a lower level to its brake beam.
Preferably, the sideplates of the brake shoe holder are provided with connection sockets for receiving an attachment bolt which holds the brake shoe holder together and pivots the suspension link through a hole made therein.
Preferably, a mounting block is located at the end of the brake beam, and the suspension link has a hole for a through mounting bolt for connection to the mounting block.
Preferably, the suspension link is hingedly mounted on a mounting sleeve connected to the end of the brake beam by a mounting bolt.
Preferably, the outer side plate of the brake pad holder is provided with a hole for accessing the mounting bolt.
Thus, thanks to an arrangement as in the present invention, the tappets can pass under the bolster even when the latter is of considerable height.
The subject of the invention in an exemplary embodiment is mf shown in the drawing, the figures of which are shown in Figs. 1-3 respectively in a side view, a top view and a rear view, respectively, of a rail vehicle bogie provided with a bogie brake according to the invention, Figs. 4 and 5, respectively. in a side view and in a plan view, the bogie brake according to the invention on a larger scale, and Figs. 6 and 7, in a side view and a rear view respectively, part of the bogie brake on an even larger scale.
As can be seen most clearly in Fig. 2, but also in Figs. 1 and 3, the rail vehicle bogie for two sets of wheels 1 with wheels 2 has two side-frames in which the sets of wheels 1 are clamped and which are connected by a bolster 4 in which is a plugged lower frame (not shown) of the vehicle.
With reference mainly to Fig. 2, but also to Figs. 1 and 3, the brake of the bogie car mainly consists of two brake beams 5 and 6 which hang from the cross member 4 by means of suspension links 7. Each brake beam 5 and 6 is provided at each end thereof with a brake shoe holder 8, which is to be fitted with a replaceable brake shoe 9, as shown in Fig. 6, for interacting with the respective running surface of the wheels 2.
The first brake beam 5 is provided with two brake actuators or brake devices 10, preferably towards its ends. Each brake device 10 is equipped with a pusher 11 for applying a braking force, connected to the second brake beam 6.
When the pressurized brake medium (compressed air) is supplied to the brake devices 10, the braking force will be applied to the wheels 2 through the two brake beams 5, 6, pushrods 11, brake shoe holders 8 and brake shoes 9.
PL 200 038 B1
As shown most clearly in Fig. 6, each brake beam 5 and 6 mainly consists of a U-shaped plate profile which has stiffening flanges, and the brake devices 10 are secured to the U-profile by bolts 10 'in the first brake beam 5. The lifters 11 extend from the braking devices 10 through holes drilled in the first brake beam 5. The connection of the lifters 11 with the second brake beam 6 is shown on the right in Fig. 4.
Each brake shoe holder 8 is rotatably mounted at the end of its respective brake beam 5, 6, and this is best illustrated in Fig. 7 in the case of the first brake beam 5.
The brake beam 5 has an end plate 12 and a cross plate 13. A mounting block 14 is connected to the end plates 12 and cross plates 13. The suspension link 7 is rotatably attached to the mounting sleeve 15, which is connected to the mounting block 14 by means of a mounting bolt 16. With In such an arrangement, the suspension link 7 is pivotally connected to the end of the brake beam 5.
The brake shoe holder 8 consists mainly of side plates 17, connection sockets 18, 19 in the side plates and a connecting bolt 20 which holds the brake shoe holder together and also pivotally engages the suspension link 7 through a hole therein. The outer side plate 17 is provided in its lower part with a hole 17 'in order to allow access to the mounting bolt 16 of the suspension connector 7.
The suspension link 7 is also provided with a steering knuckle 21 with spring deflecting friction rings 22 contacting the inner surfaces of the side side plates 17 to keep the pad holder 8 in a predetermined position when the brake was previously applied.
The connecting bolt 20 of the brake shoe holder 8 is basically on the same level as the center of the braked wheel 2, while the mounting bolt 16 of the suspension link 7 with the beam 5 or 6 is on the lower level, which means that the beams 5 and 6 will be suspended at a lower level than the center of the wheels 2 and accordingly the tappets 11 will extend at a correspondingly lower level. Consequently, as shown in Fig. 3, the tappets 11 can extend below the bolster 4, and accordingly no openings are needed in the bolster 4 for the tappets 11.
