The present invention relates to a cover strip of the type described in Swedish patent 7408566-3 (publication number 394,644). More particularly, the invention relates to a cover strip comprising a body portion and a double-weighted end portion which is delimited from the body portion by a transverse weakening line, the strip being applied to a container side so that its body portion covers a container opening disposed in the container side and its end portion covers and area of ​​the container side located between the hall opening and said container side limiting border.

The cover strip described in the aforementioned Swedish patent is intended to be ripped in the direction of its front end, where the cover strip is torn away in order to expose the package's discharge opening.

7504804-1 is separated from the folded strip portion in the transverse weakening or fold line, which thus serves as a tear view. The folded strip portion remains on the package and since it according to the invention extends slightly beyond a container side bounding the pour opening, it will serve as a pouring edge and allow the container to be emptied into a concentrated beam over said edge without spillage or drip.

In the case of practical tests, the above-described cover strap construction has proven to meet the requirements for openness and durability. In order for the remaining portion of the strip to truly form an effective pouring edge, it must extend at least a few millimeters beyond the container edge, and this has been shown to cause problems in the shaping and handling of the containers, since the protruding portion of the cover strip tends to get stuck in foreign objects. and wear off completely or partially. Another disadvantage of the described construction is that the end of the cover extending beyond the package can easily be taken for a gripping tab intended to facilitate tearing of the cover strip.

If the cover strip is torn off from this end, both the cover strip itself and the drip edge will be removed from the container, which significantly impairs the container's heel properties.

It is an object of the present invention to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks.

This has been achieved according to the invention by giving the cover strip such a construction that the pouring edge is developed into the position outside the packaging edge only in connection with the opening of the container. This is accomplished by giving a cover strip of the type initially described, that said weakening line is formed as a hinge located at or at some distance within the border, that a second weakening line is disposed substantially transversely across the upper strip portion and formed as a tear line, wherein the portion of the cover strip located between the weakening lines is arranged to, when tearing off the cover strip, fold out over said edge line and remain on the package in this position to serve as a pouring edge.

The packaging container 1 shown in the figures is of parallelepipedic shape and has an upper, preferably flat surface 2, in which a hall opening 6 closed by a cover strip 3 is arranged near an edge 4 between the upper surface 2 of the packaging container 1 and one of the side surfaces 5 of the container.

In Figure 1, the cover strip 3 is shown in the applied position covering the pouring opening 6 of the packaging container 1 (Fig. 2). The cover strip 3 comprises a centrally located recessed portion 7 having a shape corresponding to the shape of the hall opening 6. The recessed portion 7 is connected to a plastic layer, which is laminated to and covers the inside of the packaging container.

The front of the cover strip 3, located at the edge 4 of the package 1, is immediately provided inside the edge 4 with a transverse weakening line 14, along which the strip is double-weighted so that a strip portion 10 divided by the weakening line 14 is located below the main part of the cover strip 3. The portion 10 extends forward. to the end of the packing opening 6 located closest to the packaging edge 4 and is connected to its entire length 2 by its entire length. Between the weakening line 14 and the recessed area 7 of the cover strip 3 is a second weakening line 12 which also extends transversely over the cover strip to form a narrow area or field between the two weakening lines 14 and 12. The weakening lines 12, 14 are formed as a row more or less complete punching of the material. The second line of weakening 12 is formed as a tear view, while the first line of weakening 14 is formed as a hinge.

The cover strip 3 is provided with a retractable grip tab 11 at its rear, located towards the central area of ​​the packaging upper 2.

When the packaging container 1 is to be opened to enable pouring of the contents, the gripping tab 11 is taken and pulled in the upward-forward direction. In this case, the plastic layer located on the inside of the packaging material will loosen so that

When the stress becomes sufficiently large, the cover strip 3 and the portion 10 seated on the package will be separated from each other in the weakening line 12, causing the transverse portion 13 to remain on the package in the unfolded position shown in Figure 2. As a result, a marked pouring edge will be created slightly outside the edge 4 of the package 1, which facilitates the discharge of the contents of the container, since the jet now does not tend to follow the outside of the package around the edge 4. In addition, the area on the upper surface of the package that the beam comes into contact with constitutes the remaining cover parts 10 and 13, hygienic advantages are gained, since these areas have been protected by the overhead during the transport and handling of the package. cover strip 3. The two transverse weakening lines 14 and 12 of the cover strip described, if the cover strip is to operate in the manner indicated above, must have a suitable relative strength relationship. Thus, it is of course essential to give the transverse weakening line 14 serving as a hinge such a strength that the joint does not break. At the same time, however, the joint must be designed in such a way that after the opening of the package, the strip area 13 remains in the unfolded position (Figure 2). In practice, the design of the two weakening lines has not been found to cause any major problems. the manufacture of the cover strip, which is preferably made of thin plastic material.

Furthermore, the function of the cover strip and the foldable pouring edge is related partly to the distance between the hinge 14 and the container side limiting border 4 and partly to the distance between the hinge 14 and the tear line 12. It is advantageous if the front edge of the folded cover strip, i.e. the hinge 14, is placed a few millimeters inside the packaging container. side 4. Since, at the open container, the tear line 12 serving as a pouring edge must be a few millimeters outside the edge 4, this means that the distance between the weakening lines 14 and 12 is directly dependent on the distance between the weakening line 14 and the container 4504-1. If the distance between the weakening line or hinge 14 and the edge of the packaging container 4 is two millimeters, it has been found suitable to leave the distance between the hinge 14 and the tear line 12 to 4-6 millimeters. However, the dimensions must of course be adjusted in each case according to the size of the package, the location of the emptying opening and the bending radius of the relevant container edge.

As can be seen from the above, according to the invention, a cover strip is provided which has a protected pouring edge.

Contrary to what is known in the past, this pouring edge in the unopened state of the package is located completely inside the edges which restrict the surface of the packaging container with the pouring opening and is developed into a pouring edge extending outside the upper surface of the package in connection with the opening of the package. This completely eliminates the risk of the part of the cover strip extending beyond the packaging edge being hooked and torn loose during the handling of the package.
