Packing for liquid foodstuffs

The present invention relates to a cover strip for a pouring opening in a packaging container, which strip is located so that its front end extends over an edge delimiting the container side provided with a pouring opening.

In the type of disposable packaging (for eg beverages) which are made of plastic-coated paper or the like, there are a variety of different types of openings for emptying the contents. So is e.g. pouring openings are known, which are effected by breaking up a part of the joint of the packaging container, cutting corners, unfolding and tearing off flaps, etc. Increasingly, there is also the type of pouring opening which consists of a hole punched in the upper side of the packaging container, which is covered with a peelable cover strip. This type of pouring opening offers several advantages, e.g. by making it possible to place the opening virtually anywhere independent of flaps, joints and the like. The container also becomes extremely easy to open by pulling it away

7408566-3 the pouring opening covering and closing the covering strip and the pouring opening normally give a collected and easily directed jet.

However, some pouring difficulties arise when placing the pouring opening in the vicinity of a folded edge of the packaging container, which edge is not sharply folded but slightly rounded so that the jet tends to follow around the edge.

Another disadvantage is that the jet flows a certain distance in contact with the outside of the packaging container, which is not desirable if the filling material consists of e.g. beverage, as the outside of the package is completely unprotected and thus can become dirty during the transport of the packaging container to the consumer.

An object of the present invention is to obviate the above-mentioned disadvantages.

A further object of the present invention is to provide an easily opened pouring opening which, after opening, exhibits good pouring properties, even if the opening is placed near a rounded edge of the packaging container.

An additional purpose is to provide a clean and before pouring exposed surface.

These objects have been achieved according to the invention by giving a cover strip of the type initially described characterized in that the front end of the strip is double and comprises a lower strip part, which is connected to both the cover strip and the container side and arranged to remain on the package when torn off the cover strip.

The invention will be described in more detail in the following with reference to the accompanying drawing, which schematically shows an embodiment of the invention.

The packaging container 1 shown in figure 1 is of parallelepipedic shape and has an upper, preferably flat surface 2, in which a pouring opening closed by means of a cover strip 3 is arranged near an edge 4 between the upper surface 2 of the packaging container and one of the side surfaces 5 of the container.

Figure 2 shows the cover strip 3 in the applied position covering the pouring opening 6 of the packaging container 1. The covering strip 3 comprises a centrally located recessed part 7 with a shape corresponding to the shape of the pouring opening 6. The recessed part 7 is connected to a plastic layer or a plastic strip 8, which is connected to the inside of the packaging material. The plastic strip 8 is applied after the receiving of the pouring opening 6 and thus covers and closes it.

The front part of the cover strip 3, located at the front edge 4 of the package 1, is

7408566-3 · - immediately outside the edge provided with a transverse fold line 9 and the strip part 10 divided by the fold line 9 is folded back under the main part of the cover strip. The part 10 extends to the end of the hall opening 6 closest to the packaging edge 4, and is connected along its entire length, apart from the part located outside the packaging edge 4, to the upper part of the package. In fold line 9 there is a break indication or perforation.

The cover strip 3 is thus only connected to the package in two places, namely indirectly via the connection between the recessed area 7 and the plastic strip 8 and directly via the folded strip part 10. At its rear part, facing the central area of ​​the packaging top 2, the cover strip 3 is folded. grip tab 11.

When the packaging container 1 is to be opened to enable the contents to be poured out, the grip tab 11 is taken and pulled in the upward direction. In this case, the plastic strip 8 will rupture along the hole edge, and the part of the strip 8 which is connected to the recessed area 7 of the cover strip 3 will accompany the cover strip up out of the pouring opening so that it is exposed. Upon further tearing of the cover strip 3, it will rupture x the folding line 9 provided with fracture instructions, which means that the folded-in end or strip part 10 connected to the upper side 2 of the package 1 will remain on the package. In this way two advantages are gained, namely firstly that a marked edge is created along the former folding line 9, which edge facilitates the pouring out of the contents of the container 1 and prevents the jet from following the packaging surface around the edge 4, and secondly that the area on the top of the package comes into contact with consists of the remaining part 10, which before opening the package is protected by the main part of the cover strip 3 and therefore can not be contaminated during the transport of the package.

The cover strip 3 is made of a flexible and strong plastic material. The part of the cover strip which extends down into the pouring opening is provided at its lower edge with a projecting portion in order to enable the package to be resealed by the action of a push-button. The weakening line coinciding with the folding line 9 can consist of a perforation or the like, the strength of which is adapted to the strength of the material.

The double front end of the cover strip does not of course have to be achieved by folding in the strip end, but can also be created by attaching a separate strip part to the underside of the front end of the cover strip before or in connection with the application of the cover strip to the package. The fastening force between the cover strip on the one hand and the strip part and the package on the other hand must be adjusted so that the strip part really remains on the package when the cover strip is torn off.

The advantages of the cover strip according to the invention are particularly obvious in packages for e.g. milk, as such packaging places great demands on both cleanliness and the ability to pour and dispense the milk without spillage and splashes.
