63 110,648/2 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. An apparatus in a data processing system for synchronously generating a first clock signal for a first circuit: and a second, clock: signal for a second circuit, comprising: a) transmission line for transferring a global clock signal from the first end to a second end;b) first clock generation circuit for generating the first clock signal, wherein the first clock generation circuit is coupled at (1) a first point of the transmission line between the first end and a midpoint. for receiving the global clock signal with a first propagation delay, and (2) a second point of the transmission line between the second end and the midpoint for receiving the global clock signal with a second propagation delay, wherein the first clock generation circuit generates the first clock signal at a first timing that, is halfway between the first propagation delay and the second propagation delay which coincides with a midpoint propagation delay from the first end to the midpoint;c) second clock generation circuit for generating the second clock signal, wherein the second clock generation circuit is coupled at (1) a third point of the transmission line between the first end and the midpoint for receiving the global clock signal with a third propagation delay, and (2) a fourth point of the transmission line between the second end and the midpoint for receiving the global clock signal with a fourth propagation delay, wherein the second clock generation circuit generates the second clock signal at a second timing that is halfway between the third propagation delay and the fourth propagation delay which coincides with a midpoint propagation delay from the first 64 110,648/2 end to the midpoint, wherein the first timing is the same as the second timing such that the first clock signal is synchronized with the second clock signal.
