Prosthetic heart valve delivery apparatus

Abstract

Certain embodiments of the present disclosure provide a prosthetic valve (10) (e.g., prosthetic heart valve) and a valve delivery apparatus for delivery of the prosthetic valve to a native valve site via the human vasculature. The delivery apparatus is particularly suited for advancing a prosthetic heart valve through the aorta (i.e., in a retrograde approach) for replacing a diseased native aortic valve. The delivery apparatus in particular embodiments is configured to deploy a prosthetic valve from a delivery sheath (106) in a precise and controlled manner at the target location within the body.

13 claims: 2 independent, 11 dependent

  1. 1
An assembly, comprising:a delivery apparatus (100) having a distal end portion comprising a delivery sheath (106);a prosthetic valve (10) pre-connected to the delivery apparatus (100) distal to the delivery sheath (106), a storage tube assembly (3000) having an inner surface formed by a proximal bore (3068) configured to contain the delivery sheath (106), a distal bore (3066) configured to contain the prosthetic valve (10) in a partially compressed state, and a tapered surface (3064) extending from the distal bore (3066) to the proximal bore (3068), a diameter of the distal bore (3066) being greater than a diameter of the proximal bore (3068), wherein the proximal bore (3068) comprises an annular lip (3070) formed at a distal end portion of the proximal bore (3068) and configured to provide an abutment for a distal end of the delivery sheath (106), wherein the delivery sheath (106) is configured to be axially moveable over the prosthetic valve (10) so as to receive and retain the prosthetic valve (10) in a fully compressed state for insertion into a patient.
  2. 4
The assembly of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the delivery apparatus (100) further comprises a torque shaft (110) configured to be rotatable relative to the delivery sheath (106), wherein the delivery sheath (106) is coupled to a distal end portion of the torque shaft (110) and rotation of the torque shaft (110) causes the delivery sheath (106) to move axially relative to the torque shaft (110).
  3. 7
A sterile packaging comprising the assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 6.
  4. 11
A method of loading a prosthetic valve (10) into a delivery apparatus (100), the method comprising the steps of:obtaining a sterile packaging according to any one of claims 7 to 10;and causing the delivery sheath (106) to move axially over the prosthetic valve (10), thereby compressing the prosthetic valve (10) from the partially compressed state within the storage tube assembly (3000) to the fully compressed state within the delivery sheath (106) for insertion into a patient.
