  1. 1
A method (50) implemented by a cloud-based controller (610) to control a Wi-Fi network (10) comprising a plurality of access points (14, 34), the method comprising the steps of:obtaining (53) measurements from the plurality of access points (14, 34) comprised in the Wi-Fi network (10);determining (54) a configuration of the plurality of access points (14, 34) comprised in the Wi-Fi network (10) based on the measurements including the cloud-based controller (610) determining a topology to be applied to the Wi-Fi network (10), wherein the cloud-based controller (610) determining the topology includes selecting an interconnectivity of the plurality of access points to another via backhaul links that are wireless links;and providing (55) the configuration as operational parameters to the plurality of access points (14, 34) comprised in the Wi-Fi network (10) for implementation thereof, characterized in that the determining (54) a topology further comprises the cloud-based controller (610) selecting the topology of connection between the plurality of access points (14, 34) via wireless backhaul links and to any client devices via wireless client links, wherein the wireless backhaul links are different from the wireless client links and the wireless backhaul links form a tree topology, one of the plurality of access points (14, 34) being configured as a gateway connected to the Internet (12) and the cloud-based controller (610) communicating with the one access point configured as the gateway via the Internet (12);and selecting an interconnectivity of a plurality of client devices and the plurality of access points via selection of Wi-Fi channels for client links, the client links using different Wi-Fi channels than the backhaul links.
  2. 6
A cloud-based controller (610) configured to control a Wi-Fi network (10) comprising a plurality of access points (14, 34), the cloud-based controller (610) comprising:a network interface (206) communicatively coupled to the Wi-Fi network (10);one or more processors (202) communicatively coupled to the network interface (206);and memory (210) storing instructions (216) that, when executed, cause the one or more processors (202) to: obtain measurements from the plurality of access points (14, 34) comprised in the Wi-Fi network (10);determine a configuration of the plurality of access points (14, 34) comprised in the Wi-Fi network (910) based on the measurements including the cloud-based controller (610) determining a topology to be applied to the Wi-Fi network (10), wherein the cloud-based controller (610) determining the topology includes selecting an interconnectivity of the plurality of access points to another via backhaul links that are wireless links;and provide the configuration as operational parameters to the plurality of access points (14, 34) comprised in the Wi-Fi network (10) for implementation thereof, characterized in wherein the memory (210) storing instructions that, when executed, further cause the one or more processor (202) to select the topology of connection between the plurality of access points (14, 34) via wireless backhaul links and to any client devices via wireless client links, wherein the wireless backhaul links are different from the wireless client links and the wireless backhaul links form a tree topology, one of the plurality of access points (14, 34) being configured as a gateway connected to the Internet (12) and the cloud-based controller (610) communicating with the one access point configured as the gateway via the Internet (12);and select an interconnectivity of a plurality of client devices and the plurality of access points via selection of Wi-Fi channels for client links, the client links using different Wi-Fi channels than the backhaul links.
  3. 12
A Wi-Fi network (10) controlled by a cloud-based controller (610), the Wi-Fi network (10) comprising:a plurality of access points (14), comprising one access point acting as a gateway node connected to the internet via a modem/router (18) and one or more access points connected to the modem/router (18) through the one access point acting as the gateway node, wherein the cloud-based controller (610) communicates with the one access point acting as the gateway node via the Internet, wherein each of the plurality of access points (14) comprise a processor (102) and memory (108) storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor (102) to: perform (301) measurements from the Wi-Fi network (10);provide (303) the measurements to the cloud-based controller (610);and receive and implement a configuration as operational parameters from the cloud-based controller (610) based on the measurements including the cloud-based controller (610) being configured to determine a topology to be applied to the Wi-Fi network (10), wherein the cloud-based controller (610) being configures to determine the topology includes selecting an interconnectivity of the plurality of access points to another via backhaul links that are wireless links;the configuration determined by the cloud-based controller (610) based on the measurements;characterized in that and the topology determined by the cloud-based controller (610) comprises a Wi-Fi channel, selected by the cloud-based controller (610), between the plurality of access points via wireless backhaul links and to any client devices via wireless client links, wherein the wireless backhaul links are different from the wireless client links and the wireless backhaul links form a tree topology.
