  1. 1
A method for synchronizing media presentation between a host device, a first client device and a second client device, the method comprising the steps of:sending, by the host device to the first client device, a first request for sending information about latency within the first client device;sending, by the host device to the second client device, a second request for sending information about latency within the second client device;sending, by the host device to the first client device and the second client device, one or more media packets based on a packet timeline determined for the first client device and the second client device;receiving, by the host device from the first client device, a first playback latency associated with the first client device;receiving, by the host device from the second client device, a second playback latency associated with the second client device;generating, by the host device, a presentation timeline based on the first playback latency and the second playback latency, wherein the first presentation timeline is indicative of when to play back, at the first client device and the second client device, media data included in the one or more media packets;and sending, by the host device to the first client device and the second client device, the presentation timeline.
  2. 3
The method of any preceding claim, wherein the timestamps in the first packets comprise an adjustment based on a presentation latency associated with the first client device and the second client device.
  3. 4
The method of any preceding claim, further comprising synchronizing a first local clock of the first client device with a reference clock of the host device, including sending second packets to the first client device in response to requests from the first client device, the second packets having time information to correlate the first local clock with the reference clock.
  4. 6
A host device, comprising:a network interface for communicating with a plurality of client devices;a reference clock;and a processing component operatively coupled to the network interface and the reference clock, wherein the processing component is configured to carry out the steps of the methods of claims 1-5.
  5. 7
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by an electronic host device cause the host device to carry out the steps of the methods of claims 1-5.
  6. 8
A method for synchronizing media presentation between a host device, a first client device, and a second client device, the method comprising the steps of:receiving, by the first client device, a request from the host device for sending information about latency within the first client device;receiving, by the first client device, one or more media packets that are sent from the host device based on a packet timeline determined for the first client device;receiving, by the first client device, a playback timeline from the host device, the playback timeline indicative of when to play back, at the first client device, media data included in the one or more media packets, wherein the playback timeline is determined by the host device at least in part on the latency associated with the first client device and the second client device;and playing back, by the first client device, media data included in each of the one or more media packets based on the playback timeline.
  7. 12
The method of any preceding claim, wherein the latency within the first client device includes a delay between the time when the media data is scheduled to be delivered to the first client device and the time when the media data is presented by the first client device.
  8. 13
A client device, comprising:a network interface for network communications;a media interface for presenting processed media data;a local clock;and a processor coupled to the network interface, the media interface, and the local clock, wherein the processor is configured to carry out the steps of the methods of claims 8-12.
  9. 15
A system for synchronizing media presentation comprising:a first client device comprising: a network interface for network communications, a media interface for presenting processed media data, a local clock, and a first processing component coupled to the network interface, the media interface, and the local clock, wherein the first processing component is configured to carry out the steps of the methods of claims 8-12;a second client device comprising: a network interface for network communications, a media interface for presenting processed media data, a local clock, and a first processing component coupled to the network interface, the media interface, and the local clock, wherein the first processing component is configured to carry out the steps of the methods of claims 8-12;and a host device comprising: a network interface for communication with the first client device, a reference clock, and a second processing component operatively coupled to the network interface and the reference clock, wherein the processing component is configured to carry out the steps of the methods of claims 1-5.
