  1. 1
A network media system, comprising:means for transferring media data between a plurality of devices;means for transferring time information between the devices;means for synchronizing clocks at each of the devices based on the time information;means for processing transferred media data into processed media at each of the devices;and means for presenting processed media in a synchronized manner at each of the devices;wherein the plurality of devices comprise a host device (20, 320) and one or more client devices (50, 350) and wherein the means for transferring media data between the plurality of devices includes means for sending a stream of data packets (330) from the host device (20, 320) to the one or more client devices (50, 350);wherein each packet (330) in the stream of data packets (330) includes a portion of the media data, a timestamp, a sequence number, and time synchronization information for synchronizing time between the host device (20, 320) and the client device (50, 350);and wherein means for presenting processed media in a synchronized manner comprises a playback timeline (329), wherein said playback timeline is generated by the host device based on a reference clock (324) included in the host device and a desired playback rate of the media, wherein said playback timeline is communicated by the host device to the one or more client devices via a plurality of time announcements packets, the playback timeline (329) specifying the times at which media data is to be played back at each of the one or more client devices (50, 350).
  2. 3
A network media presentation method, comprising:transferring media data between a plurality of devices;transferring time information between the devices;synchronizing clocks at each of the devices based on the time information;processing transferred media data into processed media at each of the devices;presenting processed media in a synchronized manner at each of the devices;wherein the plurality of devices comprise a host device (20, 320) and one or more client devices (50, 350) and wherein the transferring media data between the plurality of devices includes sending a stream of data packets from the host device to the one or more client devices;wherein each packet (330) in the stream of data packets includes a portion of the media data, a timestamp, a sequence number, and time synchronization information for synchronizing time between the host device and the client device;and wherein presenting processed media in a synchronized manner comprises generating, by the host device, a playback timeline (329) based on a reference clock (324) included in the host device and a desired playback rate of the media, and communicating, by the host device, said playback timeline to the one or more client devices via a plurality of time announcements packets, the playback timeline specifying the times at which media data is to be played back at each of the one or more client devices.
  3. 6
An electronically readable medium having instructions encoded thereon executable by a device for performing the method steps of claims 3 - 5.
