A device (1) for receiving fluid from a subject, the device comprising:a device actuator (10);a fluid transporter (120) including an opening (130) and a flow activator (90), the flow activator being arranged to cause fluid to be released from the subject;a deployment actuator (60) coupled to the flow activator, the deployment actuator being constructed and arranged to move in a deployment direction and to move the flow activator in the deployment direction in response to movement of a rotatable release element (170) in response to actuation of the device actuator, the deployment actuator being arranged to move in a bi-stable manner from an initial, pre-deployment position to a deployment position, wherein actuation of the device actuator causes the release element (170) to rotate relative to the device actuator and actuate the deployment actuator upon contact;a retraction actuator (40) constructed and arranged to move the flow activator in a retraction direction, wherein actuation of the device actuator causes a spinner ramp (562) of the rotatable release element (170) to clear a pre-deployment lockout (556) to release the retraction actuator (40) from a compressed, high energy-state, wherein the retraction actuator (40) decompresses from the compressed, high energy-state while moving the flow activator (90) in the retraction direction;and a post-deployment lockout (550) to lock the device in a retracted state upon engagement with the rotatable release element (170), wherein an engagement edge (560) of the spinner ramp (562) of the rotatable release element (170) engages with the post-deployment lockout (550) to lock the device in the retracted state, wherein decompression of the retraction actuator (40) from the compressed, high energy-state causes the spinner ramp (562) to slide against a cover ramp (552) of a device cover (20), and when the spinner ramp (562) reaches the end of the cover ramp (552), the engagement edge (560) of the spinner ramp (562) engages with the post-deployment lockout (550) to lock the device in the retracted state.
