  1. 1
A method comprising the steps of:receiving commands from an origination base station indicating periods for tuning a mobile station to receive frequencies other than an origination frequency, wherein a window is created during which information can cease to be received over the origination frequency without any reduction in a total amount of received data;and selecting time periods during which to tune the mobile station to frequencies other than the origination frequency based upon the commands received from the origination base station.
  2. 6
An apparatus comprising:means for receiving commands from an origination base station indicating periods for tuning a mobile station to receive frequencies other than an origination frequency, wherein a window is created during which information can cease to be received over the origination frequency without any reduction in a total amount of received data;and means for selecting time periods during which to tune the mobile station to frequencies other than the origination frequency based upon the commands received from the origination base station.
  3. 11
A computer program product comprising instructions operable to cause a computer for a mobile station to perform the method steps of any one of claims 1 to 5.
  4. 12
A method of boosting a data rate of a portion of a pair of data frames to ensure that an error correction code will be capable of determining information that is transmitted over a first frequency during the time a mobile station receiver is tuned to a second frequency, said method comprising the steps of:sending a message to a mobile station identifying an elected frame pair comprising a first frame and a second frame;transmitting a portion of the first frame of the identified elected frame pair at an increased data rate determined by a data rate multiplier;interrupting forward link transmission during a second portion of the first frame of the elected frame pair and a first portion of the second frame of the elected frame pair;and transmitting a second portion of the second frame of the elected frame pair at the increased data rate determined by the data rate multiplier.
