16 claims: 9 independent, 7 dependent

  1. 1
An implant for use as a hemostat comprising a porous substrate which is fibrous having a first hydrogel precursor within the pores of a first portion of the porous substrate and a second hydrogel precursor applied to a second portion of the porous substrate, the first portion of the porous substrate being spatially separated from the second portion of the porous substrate.
  2. 4
The implant according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the second hydrogel precursor comprises a film.
  3. 5
The implant according to any of the preceding claims, further comprising a bioactive agent.
  4. 6
The implant according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the first hydrogel precursor is a multifunctional nucleophilic polymer and the second hydrogel precursor is a multifunctional electrophilic polymer.
  5. 8
The implant according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the pores are configured to create a gradient in the porous substrate.
  6. 9
A method for making an implant for use as a hemostat according to any of claims 1 to 8 comprising:applying a first hydrogel precursor within the pores of a first portion of a porous substrate which is fibrous;applying a second hydrogel precursor to a second portion of the porous substrate which is fibrous, the first portion of the substrate being spatially separated from the second portion of the porous substrate.
  7. 13
The method according to any claims 9 to 12, wherein the first hydrogel precursor is a multifunctional nucleophilic polymer and the second hydrogel precursor is a multifunctional electrophilic polymer.
  8. 15
The method according to any of claims 9 to 14, wherein the pores are configured to create a gradient in the porous substrate.
  9. 16
The method according to any of claims 9 to 15, wherein the porous substrate is a knitted structure or a woven structure.
