    A multi-component intraocular lens implantable in an optical system of a human eye, comprising:a base lens (100, 100') having an anterior surface configured to face a front of the human eye, a posterior surface on an opposite side of the base lens (100,100') relative to the anterior surface and configured to face a back of the human eye, a circumferential side surface connecting the anterior and posterior surfaces, and at least one haptic (120) extending away from the circumferential side surface and configured for securing the base lens within tissue of the human eye, the base lens (100, 100') being manufactured from a first foldable material;and an optical assembly which engages the base lens (100, 100'), the optical assembly being manufactured from a second foldable material, wherein the base lens (100, 100') includes at least one flange (105,105') disposed on the anterior surface of the base lens (100, 100'), the at least one flange including a slot (110, 110') defined therein, the slot being located only above the anterior surface of the base lens (100, 100');and wherein the optical assembly engages the slot (110, 110') parallel to the anterior surface of the base lens (100, 100') above the anterior surface of the base lens (100, 100'), characterized in that the at least one flange extends away from the anterior surface of the base lens (100, 100') toward the front of the human eye at an angle between 45 degrees and 135 degrees. and that the optical assembly engages the slot (110, 110') above the at least one haptic (120).

    The intraocular lens of Claim 1, wherein the base lens (100') includes at least one notch (101') defined in a side portion of the base lens (100'), and wherein said flange (105') is configured to engage the notch (101') so as to hold the flange to the base lens.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 11, wherein the flange (105') securely engages the notch (101') of the base lens by either one of an adhesive placed in discrete locations between the flange and the notch, a laser, ultrasonic welding, or a snap fit arrangement.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 11, further comprising at least one axis orientation mark provided thereon.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 11, wherein the optical assembly includes a first lens joined to a second lens.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 14, wherein the first lens is a top lens (300) and the second lens is a mid lens (200).

    The intraocular lens of Claim 15, wherein a medical adhesive joins the top and mid lenses (200, 300) together.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 16, wherein the medical adhesive is over at least one of an outer circumferential surface of the top lens (300) and an inner circumferential surface (250a) of the mid lens (200) opposing the outer circumferential surface of the top lens (300).

    The intraocular lens of Claim 16, wherein the medical adhesive is over at least one of a top surface of the top lens (300) and a bottom surface of the mid lens (200) opposing the top surface of the top lens (300).

    The intraocular lens of Claim 15, wherein the mid lens (200) carries an astigmatic correction and the top lens (300) carries a spherical correction.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 8, wherein the top lens (300) is disposed between the mid lens (200) and the base lens (100).

    The intraocular lens of Claim 15, wherein either one of the top lens (300) and the mid lens (200) comprises at least one tab (210) extending away from an outer circumferential surface and which is configured to engage the slot (110') defined in the flange (105') of the base lens (100').

    The intraocular lens of Claim 16, wherein the medical adhesive is at least one of selected from a group including cyanoacrylate adhesives, light cure acrylics, light cure cyanoacrylates, light cure silicones and epoxy adhesives.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 1 or 11 , wherein the slot (110') defined in the flange (105') of the base lens has a shape selected from the group of:an ellipse, an oval, a trapezoid, a rounded rectangle, a parallelogram, a pentagon, hexagon, and an octagon.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 1 or 21, wherein the at least one tab (210) is surface treated selected from the group of:notched, slotted, grooved, ridged, roughened, ribbed, gouged, striated, rifled, sulcated, corrugated, crimped, or canaliculated.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 3 or 15, wherein at least one of the top lens (300) and the mid lens (200) is constructed with a predetermined cylinder and diopter value for correcting astigmatism.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 3 or 15, wherein at least one of the top lens (300) and the mid lens (200) includes a coating capable of blocking or absorbing a range of wavelengths.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 3 or 15, wherein at least one of the top lens (300) and the mid lens (200) is provided with a tinted coating which enhances the human eye's ability to see filtered area of a light spectrum.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 1 or 11, wherein the first foldable material is the same as the second foldable material.

    The intraocular lens according to Claim 1 or 11, wherein the first foldable material is different from the second foldable material.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 11, wherein the optical assembly comprises at least one tab (210) extending away from an outer circumferential surface thereof and which is configured to engage the slot (110, 110') defined in the flange of the base lens (100, 100').

    The intraocular lens of Claim 11, wherein the at least one tab includes two tabs (210), a first tab extending in a first direction and a second tab extending in a second direction that is different from the first direction.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 11, wherein the optical assembly is a single component.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 32, wherein the single component corrects at least one of sphere, cylinder, presbyopia, spherical aberrations, and higher order optical aberrations.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 15, wherein at least one of the top lens (300) and the mid lens (200), either alone or in combination with the other, is configured to correct at least one of sphere, cylinder, presbyopia, spherical aberrations, and higher order optical aberrations.

    The intraocular lens of Claim 3 or 15, wherein at least one of the top lens (300) and the mid lens (200) is configured to deliver a pharmaceutical compound into an inner portion of the human eye.
