  1. 1
A memory device (100) comprising:a storage array (135);and a read data buffer (163) coupled to the storage array (135) via data lines (170) and having control logic (169) to load data conveyed on all the data lines (170) into the read data buffer (163) in response to assertion of a load signal in a first prefetch mode;characterized in that the control logic (169) is further to load data conveyed on an address-selected subset of the data lines (170) into the read data buffer (163) in response to assertion of the load signal in a second prefetch mode.
  2. 7
A method of operation within a memory device (100), the method comprising:retrieving data from a storage array (135);loading either a first portion of the data or a second portion of the data into a read data buffer (163) according to whether a prefetch mode signal indicates a first prefetch mode or a second prefetch mode, the second portion of the data being smaller than the first portion of the data;and outputting the portion of the data loaded into the read data buffer (163) from the memory device (100).
