Claims of equivalent WO 2007101133 A2 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS 1. A method, comprising:measuring forces on a support in a sensing system that relies on pressing against a sample that is supported by the support;and using an actuator to compensate said motion to thereby damp said motion.
  2. 16
A method, comprising:receiving an input indicative of an amount of movement of a support in an atomic force microscope, where said support is one which holds a sample;determining whether said input represents no movement;taking no action if said input represents no movement;and producing a signal which compensates for the movement, when said input represents that movement is detected.
  3. 27
An compensating system, comprising:a support for a sample which is to be measured by touching;a sensor, which measures motion of the support and produces an output indicative thereof;a controller, receiving said output from said sensor, and producing a signal based on said output;and an actuator, driven by said signal from said controller, in a way that damps said motion of the support based on said signal .
  4. 41
A method of operating an atomic force microscope, comprising:energizing a first microactuator to translate a sample with respect to a cantilever where the first microactuator is coupled to a support structure, said microactuator connected to transferring momentum to the support structure by said energizing;sensing the momentum transferred to the support structure by measuring a change in the support structure;energizing a second microactuator by an amount that damps motion of the support structure.
