29 claims: 7 independent, 22 dependent

  1. 1
A substantially spherical microsphere suitable for active embolization and/or drug delivery comprising:(i) a non-ionic contrast agent comprising iodine, (ii) at least one drug, in an amount of from 1 mg to 800 mg of drug per 100 mg of dry microspheres;and (iii) a biocompatible polymeric material comprising a polyvinylalcohol polymer, wherein the microsphere is swellable in a pharmaceutically acceptable solution and has a diameter of from 10 µm to 2000 µm before swelling, wherein the drug is doxorubicin.
  2. 14
The microsphere of any one of claims 1 to 13, wherein the microsphere is 10% to 90% saturated with non-ionic contrast media and 90% to 10% saturated with at least one drug, wherein the percent indicates the percent maximum saturation of the microsphere.
  3. 23
The composition of any one of claims 15 to 22 wherein the microsphere is 10% to 90% saturated with non-ionic contrast media and 90% to 10% saturated with at least one drug, wherein the percent indicates the percent maximum saturation of the microsphere.
  4. 24
The microsphere of any one of claims 1 to 14, or the composition of any one of claims 15 to 23, for use in active embolization in a mammal.
  5. 25
The microsphere of any one of claims 1 to 14, or the composition of any one of claims 15 to 23, for use in drug delivery in a mammal.
  6. 26
The microsphere of any one of claims 1 to 14, or the composition of any one of claims 15 to 23, for use in the management or treatment of an angiogenesis dependent disease in a mammal.
  7. 27
The microsphere of any one of claims 1 to 14, or the composition of any one of claims 15 to 23, for use in the management or treatment of a hepatocellular disease in a mammal.
