    Claims of equivalent WO 2005002305 A2 CLAIMS 1. A plastic object having a display panel embedded in its top surface. 2. The object of Claim 1 wherein said display panel is seamlessly joined with the non-display part of said object. 3. The object of Claim 1 which is formed by molding, stamping, lamination or a combination thereof. 4. The object of Claim 3 wherein said molding process is injection molding, compression molding, thermoforming or blow molding. 5. The object of Claim 1 wherein said display panel is in intimate contact with the top surface of said object. 6. The object of Claim 1 wherein the top viewing substrate layer of said display panel is the same as the top layer of the object. 7. The object of Claim 1 which is formed from a material selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic materials, thermoplastic elastomers, thermoset materials and blends, prepregs or composites thereof. 8. The object of Claim 7 wherein said thermoplastic material is polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, acrylics, polysulfone, polyarylester, polypropylene oxide, polyolefm, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS), methacrylate- acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (MABS), polycarbonate, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyurethane or a composite, prepreg or blend thereof. 9. The object of Claim 7 wherein said thermoset material is a reaction injection molding grade polyurethane, epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester, vinylester or a composite, prepreg or blend thereof 10. The object of Claim 1 wherein said display panel is an electrophoretic display, flipping ball display, liquid powder display or other particle type of displays. 11. The object of Claim 10 wherein said electrophoretic display is Microcup® based. 12. The object of Claim 1 wherein said display panel is a liquid crystal display. 13. The object of Claim 12 wherein said liquid crystal display is Microcup® based. 14. The object of Claim 10 wherein said electrophoretic display has a traditional up/down, in-plane or dual switching mode. 15. The object of Claim 1 wherein said display panel is an OLED or a PLED. 16. The object of Claim 12 wherein said liquid crystal display is a polymer dispersed liquid crystal or a cholesteric liquid crystal display. 17. The object of Claim 1 wherein said display panel is formed on a plastic substrate layer, sandwiched between two plastic substrate layers or sandwiched between a transparent plastic layer and a thin metal or metal oxide foil or a glass sheet. 18. The object of Claim 17 wherein said plastic substrate layer is formed from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyolefin, polycarbonate (PC), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polysulfone, polyimide (PI), polyarylester, polystyrene, polyurethane, polysiloxane or a copolymer, blend or composite thereof. 19. The object of Claim 17 wherein said plastic substrate material is formed from PET, PBT, PEN or PC. 20. The object of Claim 17 wherein said metal or metal oxide foil is formed from steel, Al, Sn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mg or an alloy, oxide, composite or blend thereof. 21. The object of Claim 20 wherein said steel is carbon steel or stainless steel. 22. The object of Claim 1 further comprising decorative designs on its top surface. 23. The object of Claim 22 wherein said decorative designs are applied post-molding. 24. The object of Claim 22 wherein said decorative designs are applied by an in-mold process. 25. The object of Claim 22 wherein said display panel comprises a plurality of display cells sandwiched between a top-viewing flexible substrate layer and a bottom flexible substrate layer. 26. The object of Claim 25 wherein said top-viewing flexible substrate layer is a transparent substrate layer. 27. The object of Claim 26 wherein said top-viewing flexible substrate layer is a transparent plastic substrate layer. 28. The object of Claim 25 wherein the bottom flexible substrate layer is a plastic substrate layer, a thin metal or metal oxide foil or a glass sheet. 29. The object of Claim 25 wherein said decorative designs appear on either side of the top-viewing substrate layer. 30. The object of Claim 22 wherein said display panel has decorative designs on the non-display areas. 31. The object of Claim 22 wherein said decorative designs are formed on the object by injection molding, compression molding, thermoforming, blow molding, hot stamping, lamination or a combination thereof. 32. The object of Claim 1 which is the plastic cover of a cell phone or pager. 33. The object of Claim 32 wherein said display panel is Microcup® based. 34. The object of Claim 1 which is a personal accessory. 35. The object of Claim 1 which is a toy or educational device. 36. The object of Claim 1 which is a plastic cover of a personal digital assistant or e-book. 37. The object of Claim 1 which is a credit or smart card or identification or business card. 38. The object of Claim 1 which is the face of an album, watch, clock, radio or camera. 39. The object of Claim 1 which is the dashboard in an automobile. 40. The object of Claim 1 which is a household item. 41. The object of Claim 1 which is a laptop computer housing, carrying case or front control panel of any consumer electronics equipments. 42. An in-mold display transfer film or foil which comprises a temporary carrier film, a release layer, a display panel, an adhesive or tie layer and optionally a durable layer. 43. The in-mold display transfer film or foil further comprising an adhesive layer between the display panel and the release layer. 44. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said temporary carrier layer is a thin film of PET, PEN or PC. 45. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said release layer is formed from wax, paraffin or silicone or a highly smooth and impermeable coating prepared from a radiation curable multifunctional acrylate, silicone acrylate, epoxide, vinyl ester, vinyl ether, allyl or vinyl, unsaturated polyester or a blend thereof. 46. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said release layer comprises a condensation polymer, copolymer, blend or composite selected from the group consisting of epoxy, polyurethane, polyimide, polyamide, melamine formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde and phenol formaldehyde. 47. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said optional durable coating is formed from a radiation curable multifunctional acrylate, epoxide, vinyl ester, diallyl phthalate, vinyl ether or a blend thereof. 48. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said optional durable coating comprises a condensation polymer or copolymer. 49. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 48 wherein said condensation polymer or copolymer is selected from the group consisting of epoxy, polyurethane, polyamide, polyimide, melamine formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde and phenol formaldehyde. 50. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said optional durable coating comprises a sol-gel silicate or titanium ester. 51. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 47 wherein said radiation curable multifunctional acrylate is epoxy acrylate, polyurethane acrylate, polyester acrylate, silicone acrylate or glycidyl acrylate. 52. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said adhesive layer is formed from polyacrylate, polymethacrylate, polystyrene, polycarbonate, polyurethane, polyester, polyamide, epoxy resin, ethylene vinylacetate copolymer (EVA) or thermoplastic elastomer or a copolymer, blend or composite thereof. 53. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said adhesive layer is a hot melt or heat activated adhesive. 54. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said adhesive layer is polyurethane, polyamide or a copolymer, blend or composite thereof. 55. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 wherein said adhesive layer is polycarbonate, polyacrylate, polymethacrylate or a copolymer, blend or composite thereof. 56. The in-mold display transfer film or foil of Claim 42 which is in the form of a roll. 57. An in-mold display insertion film or foil which comprises a carrier layer, a display panel and an adhesive layer. 58. The in-mold display insertion film or foil of Claim 57 wherein said display panel is formed directly on the carrier layer. 59. The in-mold display insertion film or foil of Claim 57 which is in the form of a roll. 60. A process for the manufacture of an object having a display panel embedded in the top surface of the object, which process comprises:a) forming an in-mold display transfer film or foil which comprises a temporary carrier layer, a release layer, a display panel, an adhesive layer and optionally a durable layer;b) feeding said in-mold display transfer film or foil into a mold with the temporary carrier film in contact with the inner surface of the mold;c) injecting a plastic material into the mold for forming said object;d) removing the object formed from the mold;and e) simultaneously removing both temporary carrier layer and release layer. 61. A process for the manufacture of an object having a display panel embedded in the top surface of the object, which process comprises: a) forming an in-mold display insertion film or foil which comprises a carrier layer, a display panel and an adhesive layer;b) inserting said in-mold display insertion film or foil into a mold with said carrier layer in contact with the inner surface of the mold;c) injecting a plastic material into said mold for forming said object;d) removing the formed object from the mold. 62. The process of Claim 61 wherein said display panel is formed directly on the carrier layer. 63. A process for the manufacture of an object having a display panel embedded in the top surface of the object, which process comprises: a) forming an in-mold display transfer film or foil which comprises a temporary carrier layer, a release layer, a display panel, an adhesive layer and optionally a durable layer;b) feeding said in-mold display transfer film or foil into a mold with the temporary carrier film in contact with the inner surface of the mold;c) thermoforming or blow molding said object with a plastic material in the mold;d) removing the object formed from the mold;and e) simultaneously removing both temporary carrier layer and release layer. 64. A process for the manufacture of an object having a display panel embedded in the top surface of the object, which process comprises: a) forming an in-mold display insertion film or foil which comprises a carrier layer, a display panel and an adhesive layer;b) inserting said in-mold display insertion film or foil into a mold with said carrier layer in contact with the inner surface of the mold;c) thermoforming or blow molding said object with a plastic material in said mold;d) removing the formed object from the mold. 65. The process of Claim 64 wherein said display panel is formed directly on said carrier film. 66. A process for the manufacture of an object having a display panel embedded in the top surface of the object, which process comprises: a) forming an in-mold display transfer film or foil which comprises a temporary carrier layer, a release layer, a display panel, an adhesive layer and optionally a durable layer;b) feeding said in-mold display transfer film or foil into a mold with the temporary carrier film in contact with the inner surface of the mold;c) compression forming said object with a plastic material in the mold;d) removing the object formed from the mold;and e) simultaneously removing both temporary carrier layer and release layer. 67. A process for the manufacture of an object having a display panel embedded in the top surface of the object, which process comprises: a) forming an in-mold display insertion film or foil which comprises a carrier layer, a display panel and an adhesive layer;b) inserting said in-mold display insertion film or foil into a mold with said carrier layer in contact with the inner surface of the mold;c) compression forming said object with a plastic material in said mold;and d) removing the formed object from the mold. 68. The process of Claim 67 wherein said display panel is formed directly on said carrier film.
