Magical wand and interactive play experience

Abstract

The invention provides a unique interactive play experience carried out utilizing a toy "wand" and/or other actuation/tracking device. In one embodiment the wand incorporates a wireless transmitter and motion-sensitive circuitry adapted to actuate the transmitter in response to particular learned wand motions. The wand allows play participants to electronically and "magically" interact with their surrounding play environment simply by pointing, touching and/or using their wands in a particular manner to achieve desired goals or produce desired effects. Various wireless receivers or actuators are distributed throughout the play facility to support such wireless interaction and to facilitate full immersion in a fantasy experience in which participants can enjoy the realistic illusion of practicing, performing and mastering "real" magic.

  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2004087271 A1 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A motion-activated toy for facilitating wireless interactive game play, said motion activated toy comprising: a generally elongated body having distal and proximal portions;a wireless transmitter disposed on or within said generally elongated body, said wireless transmitter comprising a radio frequency, infrared and/or RFID transmitter;actuation circuitry operatively associated with said motion-activated toy and responsive to one or more particular motions thereof for actuating said wireless transmitter and causing said transmitter to wirelessly send a command signal for activating or controlling one or more effects.
  2. 2
The motion-activated toy of Claim 1, wherein said generally elongated body is provided in the form of one or more of the following play objects:magic wand, stick, tree branch, flower, sword, staff, scepter, whip, paddle, numb chuck, cricket bat, baseball bat, broom, feather duster, paint brush, wooden spoon, chop stick, pen, pencil, crayon, umbrella, walking cane, candy cane, candle stick, taper, musical instrument, book, diary, flashlight, telescope, kaleidoscope, fishing rod, doll, action figure, stuffed animal, jewelry item, or trinket
  3. 3
The motion-activated toy of Claim 1 further comprising a magnetic tip provided at said distal portion, said magnetic tip being sized and adapted for selectively actuating variuos effects via one or more magnetically operated reed switches.
  4. 4
The motion-activated toy of Claim 1 further comprising a unique person identifier adapted to be communicated wirelessly to an associated wireless reader for identifying and/or tracking said motion-activated toy and/or an individual play particpant using said motion-activated toy.
  5. 5
The motion-activated toy of Claim 4 wherein said toy comprises a magic wand comprising internal activation circuitry configured and adapted to activate one or more associated effects by shaking, twisting and/or waiving the wand in a particular manner and/or pointing the wand accurately at a certain target object desired to be activated.
  6. 6
The motion-activated toy of Claim 5 wherein said internal activation circuitry comprises a pair of tilt-sensors spaced apart along an elongated axis of said elongated body.
  7. 7
The motion-activated toy of Claim 1 wherein said toy comprises a magic wand configured and adapted to activate one or more associated effects by shaking, twisting and/or waiving the wand in a particular manner and/or pointing the wand accurately at a certain target object desired to be activated.
  8. 8
The motion-activated toy of Claim 7 wherein said internal activation circuitry comprises two or more sensors spaced apart along an elongated axis of said elongated body.
  9. 9
The motion-activated toy of Claim 8 wherein said sensors are placed and oriented and electrically coupled to one another in such a manner such that said activation ciruitry is activated substantially only when the distal portion of said elongated body is subjected to a first acceleration that is substantially different from a second acceleration at the proximal portion of said elongated body.
  10. 10
A method for actuating the motion-activated toy of Claim 1, said method comprising shaking, twisting and/or waiving the toy in a particular manner and/or pointing the toy at a certain target object desired to be activated while shaking, twisting and/or waiving the toy in a particular manner.
  11. 11
A self-powered toy wand comprising power generation circuitry operatively associated with the toy wand and being configured and adjusted to be responsive to either a fluctuating external magnetic field and/or movements of the toy, for generating and storing small amounts of energy for powering one or more associated toy wand functions or effects.
