15 claims: 6 independent, 9 dependent

  1. 1
A nucleic acid construct comprising an expression control sequence functional in a plant cell operably linked to a nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide, said polypeptide being a polypeptide which is capable of desaturating a fatty acid molecule at carbons 6 and 7 as numbered from the carboxyl end of said fatty acid, said polypeptide comprises the 457 amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:2.
  2. 5
The recombinant plant cell of any of claims 3-4, wherein said plant cell is a seed cell.
  3. 6
The recombinant plant cell of any of claims 3-5, wherein said recombinant plant cell is enriched in a fatty acid or a conjugated form thereof, wherein said fatty acid is selected from the group consisting of 18:1, 18:2, 18:3 and 18:4.
  4. 7
The recombinant plant cell of any of the claims 3-6, further comprising a recombinant Δ5-desaturase.
  5. 8
The recombinant plant cell of any of the claims 3-7, further comprising a recombinant Δ12-desaturase.
  6. 9
A transgenic plant comprising the recombinant plant cell according to any of claims 3-8.
