Storage medium containing an interactive graphics data stream, and apparatus and method for reproducing the same

Abstract

A storage medium storing: video data; and graphics data for displaying a menu overlaid on an image displayed on the basis of the video data. The graphics data includes first graphics data displayed on the screen when an activation command is generated by a user and may also include second graphics data displayed on the screen at a designated time.

41 claims: 8 independent, 33 dependent

  1. 1
A storage medium comprising:video data;and graphics data for displaying a menu,    wherein the graphics data includes first graphics data displayed on the screen when an activation command is generated by a user.
  2. 12
A reproducing apparatus for reproducing from a storage medium video data and graphics data for displaying a menu, comprising:a video decoder (230) which decodes video data;and a graphics decoder (910) which decodes graphics data,    wherein the graphics decoder (910) decodes first graphics data displayed when the graphics data is of a specified type and an activation command is received, and    wherein second graphics data is displayed at a designated time when the graphics data is not of the first type.
  3. 16
The apparatus of any of claims 12 to 15, wherein the interface transmits an activation command from the user within a specified period when the video data and graphics data are multiplexed and recorded as a single stream, and    wherein the graphics decoder (910) deletes information stored in all buffers in the graphics decoder (910) when the specified period elapses.
  4. 19
The apparatus of any of claims 12 to 18, wherein the graphics decoder (910) includes:a status register which stores a stream number of the first graphics data or the second graphics data that is being reproduced or will be reproduced, the status register having a flag discriminating the first graphics data and the second graphics data and a flag indicating whether decoded first graphics data is to be displayed.
  5. 20
The apparatus of any of claims 12 to 18, wherein the graphics decoder (910) includes:status registers which store stream numbers of the first graphics data and the second graphics data that are being reproduced or will be reproduced, respectively, and    wherein the status register for the first graphics data includes a flag indicating whether decoded first graphics data is to be displayed on the screen.
  6. 25
A reproducing method of reproducing from a storage video data and graphics data for displaying a menu screen, comprising:decoding graphics data;and outputting, on the basis of the decoded graphics data, the decoded graphics data when an activation command is generated by a user or displaying the decoded graphics data at a designated time.
  7. 26
A method of reproducing an interactive graphics stream from a storage medium, comprising:reading an interactive graphics stream from the storage medium;decoding the read interactive graphics stream;determining a type of the read interactive graphics stream;and blending the decoded interactive graphics stream with video data and one of displaying the blended data at a designated time when the decoded interactive graphics stream is a normal interactive graphics stream and displaying the blended data when an activation command is received when the decoded interactive graphics stream is an on-demand interactive graphics stream.
  8. 39
An interactive graphics decoder, comprising:a stream graphics processor (914) which decodes a received interactive graphic stream and transmits button image object data and button configuration information after the decoding;a coding data buffer (912) which temporarily stores an interactive graphics stream and then transmits the interactive graphics stream to a stream graphics processor (914);an object buffer (916) which receives the button image object data;a composition buffer (918) which receives the button configuration information;and a graphics controller (920) which builds an image to be displayed using data stored in the object buffer and the composition buffer (918) and transmits the determined image from the object buffer to a graphics plane (930).
