A method for three dimensional reconstruction of objects of interest (1) comprising the steps of:(a) packing objects of interest (1) into a linear container (2);(b) sampling the objects of interest (1) with a plurality of optical point sources (27) located around the linear container (2), in cooperation with a plurality of opposing time delay and integration (TDI) image sensors (25) located opposite the optical point sources (27) at a distance from the linear container (2) such that there is no focal plane within the objects of interest (1) during sampling, and where multiple projection angles through the objects of interest (1) are sampled by optical projection beams produced by the plurality of optical point sources (27) as the objects of interest move between the plurality of optical point sources (27) and the opposing optical sensors (25);(c) translating the linear container (2) at a constant rate such that the objects of interest move through the optical projection beams one at a time;and (d) generating at least one projection image (51) with the plurality of opposing TDI image sensors (25), the line transfer rate of which is synchronized to the rate of translation of the objects of interest.
