  1. 1
A method for enabling signal interference cancellation, comprising:receiving a raw signal stream (212);identifying a plurality of signal paths in said raw signal stream (212);for a set of said identified plurality of signal paths, determining an observed signal strength;identifying at least one of said signal paths as a potential interferer (508) based, at least in part, on the observed signal strength;creating at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512) based on the at least one potential interferer (508) and said raw signal stream (212);and determining whether processing said at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512) with at least a first correlator or demodulation processor will improve a signal to noise ratio of at least a first signal path assigned to said at least first correlator or demodulation processor;and in response to determining that said signal to noise ratio is improved, providing said at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512) to said at least first correlator or demodulation processor;or in response to determining that said signal to noise ratio is not improved, discontinuing said creating at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512).
  2. 2
The method of Claim 1, further comprising:in response to determining that said signal to noise ratio is not improved, providing a non-interference cancelled signal stream to said at least a first signal processor.
  3. 3
The method of Claim 1, wherein said set of identified signal paths comprises a set of assigned signal paths;wherein said set of assigned signal paths is particularly obtained from a demodulation path list.
  4. 4
The method of Claim 1, further comprising:listing said potential interferers (508) in a candidate to cancel list.
  5. 5
The method of Claim 4, further comprising updating a to cancel list by replacing a signal path in said to cancel list having a signal strength that is less than a signal strength of one of said potential interferers (508) in said candidate to cancel list with said one of said potential interferers (508).
  6. 6
The method of Claim 5, further comprising updating a channel determination list by entering signal paths from said to cancel list in said channel determination list;and/or storing an identity of said at least a first interference cancelled signal;and/or storing an identity of said plurality of signal paths in said channel to create a survey path list;providing an interference canceled signal stream to a searcher element;and updating said survey path list.
  7. 7
The method of Claim 1, further comprising:identifying a plurality of said identified signal paths;as potential interferers (508).
  8. 8
The method of Claim 7, further comprising:creating said at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512) based on said potential interferers (508) and said raw signal stream (212).
  9. 9
The method of Claim 7, further comprising:in response to determining that said signal to noise ratio is not improved, discontinuing said creating said at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512).
  10. 10
An apparatus (200) for cancelling interfering signal paths, comprising:a searcher finger (216) operable to identify a plurality of signal paths in a raw signal stream (212);a plurality of demodulation fingers;a cancellation controller (228) operable to determine an observed signal strength for a set of said identified plurality of signal paths;the cancellation controller (228) comprising: a channel determination module (232) operable to provide at least one replica of an interfering signal path on the basis at least in part of the observed signal strength;and a signal cancellation module (236) operable to remove said at least one replica from said raw signal stream (212) and to provide an interference cancelled signal stream;wherein the cancellation controller (228) is further adapted to determine whether processing said at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512) with at least a first of the plurality of demodulation fingers will improve a signal to noise ratio of at least a first signal path assigned to at least a first of the plurality of demodulation fingers;the cancellation controller (228) further operable to, in response to determining that said signal to noise ratio is improved, providing said at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512) to a demodulation processor (224), or in response to determining that said signal to noise ratio is not improved, discontinuing said creating at least a first interference cancelled signal stream (512).
  11. 11
The apparatus (200) of Claim 10, wherein each of said demodulation fingers comprises a tracking module and a demodulation module.
  12. 12
The apparatus (200) of Claim 10, wherein said cancellation controller (228) further comprises:a plurality of channel determination modules (232) each of which is operable to provide a replica of an interfering signal path on the basis at least in part of the observed signal strength;and a plurality of signal cancellation modules (236) each operable to remove at least one replica from said raw signal stream (212) and to provide an interference cancelled signal stream.
  13. 13
The apparatus (200) of Claim 12, wherein a number of demodulation fingers in said plurality of demodulation fingers is greater than a number of channel determination modules (232) in said plurality of channel determination modules (232).
