Medical line anchoring system

An anchoring system (8) includes a simply-structured device which permits a portion of a catheter tube (15) or similar medical article to be easily anchored to a patient, desirably without the use of tape or needles and suturing. A unitary retainer (10) desirably includes a base (14) connected to a cover (22) by way of a flexible hinge (24). The retainer (10) is attached to a flexible anchor pad (16) including an adhesive bottom surface, which can be attached to the patient's skin. A catheter (15) is secured to a fitting (11), which in turn mounts to the retainer (10). Mounting the fitting (11) to the retainer (10) can be accomplished by inserting posts (20) of the retainer (14) through holes (67, 77) of the fitting (11), or by mounting the fitting (11) within a channel defined by mounting structures (140, 142) integral to the retainer (10c). The cover (22) is then positioned over the base (14), by bending the flexible hinge (24), and latched to the base (14). Several embodiemnts of the latching mechanism are disclosed. In one form, the latching mechanism includes one or more posts (20) on the base (14) which can be releasably locked into corresponding slotted holes (32) in the cover (22).
