  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2004002187 A2 CLAIMS:1. A method comprising: receiving a message burst from a first radio at a second radio;identifying a set of physical carriers using the burst, the physical carriers being designated for communications between the first and second radios;identifying a subset of the physical carriers that are used for hopping using the burst;identifying a subset of the physical carriers to be used by the second radio for random access;selecting a physical carrier from the subset of random access physical carriers using the identified hopping physical carriers;and sending a random access burst using the selected physical carrier.
  2. 8
A communications burst containing data, the data comprising:an identification of a set of physical carriers;an identification of the physical carriers of the set that are used for hopping;and an identification of the physical carriers of the set to be used by a radio to which the burst is sent for random access.
  3. 18
A method comprising :receiving a message burst from a first radio at a second radio;identifying a set of physical carriers using the burst, the physical carriers corresponding with a set of logical channels being designated for communications between the first and second radios;identifying a subset of the logical channels that hop using the burst;identifying a subset of the logical channels to be used by the second radio for random access;selecting a logical channel from the subset of random access logical channels;and sending a random access burst using the selected logical channel.
  4. 21
A method comprising:transmitting a burst from a first radio to a second radio, the burst including: an identification of a set of physical carriers;an identification of the physical earners of the set that are used for hopping;and an identification of the physical carriers of the set to be used by the second radio for random access.
  5. 32
A communications device comprising:a receiver to receive a message burst from a radio;a processor to: identify a set of physical earners using the burst, the physical carriers being designated for communications between the radio and the communications device;identify a subset of the physical carriers that are used for hopping using the burst;identify a subset of the physical carriers to be used by the communication device for random access;and select a physical carrier from the subset of random access physical carriers using the identified hopping physical earners;and a transmitter to send a random access burst using the selected physical carrier.
  6. 39
A machine-readable medium having stored thereon data representing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:receiving a message burst from a first radio at a second radio;identifying a set of physical carriers using the burst, the physical carriers being designated for communications between the first and second radios;identifying a subset of the physical carriers that are used for hopping using the burst;identifying a subset of the physical carriers to be used by the second radio for random access;selecting a physical carrier from the subset of random access physical carriers using the identified hopping physical earners;and sending a random access burst using the selected physical carrier.
