EP1512383A2

A vascular system for valve leaflet apposition

Abstract

A vascular system comprises a balloon catheter (200, 210, 220, 230) and a vascular device (10, 100, 300). The balloon catheter has an elongated shaft (209) and an expandable balloon (240, 250, 250'). The vascular device (10, 100, 300) is mounted over the expandable balloon and is composed of shape memory material. The vascular device has a collapsed position and a memorized position and is expandable to an expanded position to engage the vessel walls and returnable substantially to the memorized position to bring the walls radially inwardly.

8 claims: 3 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
A vascular system characterised by :a balloon catheter (200, 210, 220, 230) having an elongated shaft (209) and an expandable balloon (240, 250, 250');and a vascular device (10, 100, 300) mounted over the expandable balloon and composed of shape memory material and having a collapsed position and a memorized position, the vascular device being expandable to an expanded position to engage the vessel walls and returnable substantially to the memorized position to bring the walls radially inwardly.
  2. 6
The vascular system of any preceding claim, characterised in that in the collapsed position an intermediate portion (14) of the tubular member includes a plurality of longitudinal strips (24, 102) with a gap between adjacent strips, the longitudinal strips buckling outwardly upon expansion of the device (10, 100, 300).
  3. 7
The vascular system of any preceding claim, characterised in that the device (10, 100, 300) includes a plurality of longitudinal strips (24, 102) and further includes a substantially straight slot (30, 104) formed in each of the longitudinal strips in the collapsed position of the device, each slot transforming to a substantially diamond shape when the device is moved to a first expanded position.
