11 claims: 6 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
A node for use in a system comprising said node (6, 20) and a further node (20, 6), a plurality of different communication channels being provided between said nodes, each communication channel having a different identity, said node comprising:means for calculating an authentication code (XMAC-I) from a plurality of values, some of said values being the same for said plurality of different communication channels, means for receiving information relating to an authentication code (MAC-I) calculated by said further node;and means for comparing information relating to an authentication code (XMAC-I) calculated by said node with information relating to an authentication code (MAC-I) calculated by the further node;and characterised wherein at least one of said values being arranged to comprise information relating to the identity of a communication channel (RB ID) of said plurality of communication channels.
  2. 4
A node as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising means for communication via a wireless connection.
  3. 5
A communication system comprising a node as claimed in any preceding claim.
  4. 6
A method for carrying out an integrity check in a system comprising a node and a further node (6,20), a plurality of communication channels being provided between said node and said further node, each communication channel having a different identity (RB ID), said method by the steps of:receiving in the node information relating to an authentication code (MAC-I) from the further node;calculating a further authentication code (XMAC-I) using a plurality of values, some of said values being the same for said plurality of different communication channels, comparing the further authentication code (XMAC-I) with said information relating to an authentication code (MAC-I) received from the further node and characterised in that at least one of said values being arranged to comprise information relating to the identity of a communication channel (RB ID) of said plurality of channels.
  5. 9
A method as claimed in any of claims 6 to 8, wherein said values for calculating the message authentication code (XMAC-I) comprise one or more of the following values of a 3G Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) security architecture:an integrity key (IK);a direction value (DIRECTION), a fresh value (FRESH), a message value (MESSAGE) and a count value (COUNT-I).
  6. 10
A method as claimed in any of claims 6 to 9, wherein said communication channels comprise a radio bearer.
