Set top box output format selector and indicator

Abstract

A digital television signal decoder for use with a number of different types of monitors has a control panel that includes a selector which allows a viewer to select between various output formats of the decoder. A display on the decoder panel is coupled to the selector to display an indication of selected output format. The viewer selects the output format of the decoder before connecting the decoder to the monitor. The control panel may be on the decoder itself or on a remote control device.
