Mounting device for fitting a telescopic sight to a fire arm
Abstract
A mounting apparatus is disclosed for attaching a sighting device onto a weapon. The mounting apparatus has a rail disposed on part of the weapon in a longitudinal direction. The rail has a pair of longitudinally extending opposed sides and a longitudinally extending first attachment element on each of the opposed sides. A removable mounting base has a pair of longitudinally extending side edges and a longitudinally extending second attachment element on each side edge. Each second attachment element is complimentary to a corresponding one of the first attachment elements. The mounting base is slidingly and longitudinally engaged with the rail via the complimentary first and second attachment elements. The mounting base is formed of at least two parts which are slidable against one another in a transverse direction. A spring mechanism produces a spring force and is arranged to bias the two parts of the mounting base into engagement with the rail. The spring force is overcome by manually squeezing the two parts to release the mounting base from the rail.

MOUNTING DEVICE FOR ATTACHING AN TELESCOPIC PIPE TO A SHOT GUN
The invention relates to a mounting device for mounting a telescopic sight o. The like. mounted on a on a firearm or formed longitudinal rail, the pointing has a respective longitudinal groove or a respective longitudinal web on both sides to the outside, into or to a removable mounting base with a ridge or a groove engages a longitudinally displaceable manner, the or each are formed on one of the side edges of the mounting base, as outlined in claim 1.
the US are named 3877166 and EP 0444300 A2 to prior art.
For aligned holder of riflescopes o. The like. On weapons there are very different types of mounting devices. Allen is the basic desire common to attach the mounted rifle scope as adamant as humanly possible to the weapon, it will never change its position relative to the weapon.
With elaborate hunting weapons mostly artisanal crafted mounting devices are used, which have again produced most precise, intricate surfaces. For sporting weapons and military guns, however they usually prefer simpler and more robust assembly facilities
go back to the basic form of the so-called. rail mount. In the invention is such a mounting device.
In a rail mount such a dovetailed longitudinal-rail mounted or formed on the weapon; and the scope or the like, a removable foot or mounting base with a parent profile that can be pushed onto the longitudinal rail of the weapon with GE ringem game.
The longitudinal rail can be mounted on top of the weapon, so that its surface runs horizontally supply during normal stop with horizontal weft direction. But it can also be mounted on the side of the weapon, so that its surface is approximately vertical at normal stop; docked or to any other body and the weapon, such as on an MG car mount. The length of the longitudinal rail can be only a few centimeters. But it can also be much longer.
A clamping device, in the simplest case a clamping screw, interspersed across the mounting base and is therefore to this clamp on the dovetail. Of the
Shank of the clamping screw is arranged between the mounting base and the longitudinal profile rail, that the position of the telescopic sight in the longitudinal direction of the weapon is always reliably reproducible. Such Montageein- direction that seen in the US-A-3,887,166 (Ward). This known mounting means is advantageous because it has a small size. Its disadvantage, however, lies in the laborious pushing and finding the right mounting location, and the necessarily very high manufacturing accuracy.
It is also possible, the mounting base along allocate and move out one part relative to the other out of engagement with the longitudinal rail. In this case, the mounting base must not be delayed in the longitudinal direction on the longitudinal rail, but may be placed with displaced parts at any point on this. If the parts return back to their original position, they engage in the longitudinal rail and clamp to these permanently. Such mounting means can be seen in EP 0444300 A2 (Repa). In this document a long eccentrically mounted pivot lever shown, the swivel near one end bar on a portion of the mounting base is mounted. The short end of the pivot lever is connected to the other part of the mounting base via a toggle mechanism which allows this other part with great force from the outside against the longitudinal rail, ie in the direction towards the first part, to press. Since the toggle mechanism is through bends in its rest position, it exerts a force in the direction of backward movement of the movable part. There is a strong cup spring assembly is therefore provided, which compensates for this backward movement while holding the pivot lever in over buckled position of the toggle mechanism.
The latter mounting means is advantageous because it can be quickly put on and taken off, and because the disc spring package can compensate for manufacturing inaccuracies. Its disadvantage, however, lies in the bulky design, which is necessary because of the long swing lever.
Starting from this prior art, the invention has the object to improve the known mounting devices to the extent that their benefits remain in effect, but omitted their disadvantages as possible.
This object is achieved by the subject matter of claim 1, so characterized that with a mounting means that the EP is similar to 0,444,300 A2 (Repa), is dispensed with any mechanism for clamping and instead the clamping force for clamping the two parts of the mounting base is provided on the longitudinal rail of a spring assembly, the spring force for detaching and attaching the mounting base of the or on the longitudinal rail can be overcome by the user's fingers, ie approximately 5 kg does not significantly exceed (claim 1) .
Here is broken with a more than century-old tradition, according to a the mounting base corresponding bracket with the rifle in the transverse direction must necessarily be positively connected to prevent relative displacements of support and weapon in the transverse direction under all circumstances. The invention combines the mounting base with the longitudinal-profile rail by an engagement member which is held with a limited and by external forces quite releasable spring force in engagement. The relative displacement in the transverse direction is quite possible.
Previously, it was a condition of each assembly means to preserve the maintenance of the telescopic sight on the weapon under all circumstances. For example, if the gun fell from a high seat, then was allowed to abort instance the buttstock, but the scope had sitzenblei- ben. According to the invention it has now been recognized that from a certain impact force on the riflescope, night target device or the like damage occur, at least make a repair is necessary, and the immediate re-use impossible.. As when a rifle with night target device from two meters onto the pavement Shutdown falls. For then shows the night target device then no image. It therefore does not need to remain attached to the gun. Rather, it is possible that the inertia force of the falling night aiming device the spring assembly according to the invention consumes energy so charged that it releases the night target device braked. It is therefore quite conceivable that the assembly according to the invention when dropped the rifle with mounted accessory this just by his Freikom- preserves men of the weapon from damages which would have been unavoidable in a conventional installation.
A further advantage is that according to the invention, all long gen clamping lever and the large machining accuracy omitted since the spring assembly is capable inaccuracies readily compensate. At most, a set screw is required to adjust the clamping force of the spring arrangement.
but the mounting means according to the invention preferably, the positive engagement between the longitudinal sectional rail and the mounting base to prevent its slippage as a result of external forces (claim 2). In the two above-mentioned known mounting means of the mounting base is clamped with such a clamping force on the longitudinal profile rail that these can not be overcome without damaging the parts. Although in the US-A-3,877,166 (Ward) is also a positive connection shown by a cross-bolt, but this is only for the positioning of Montagesok- cle, not his support against slippage in the longitudinal direction of the weapon. This slippage is sufficiently prevented in the prior art by the clamping of such that the present here, additional, positive retaining engagement is not required.
In the invention, however, a formation on the mounting base is preferred, which positively engages in a transverse groove of the longitudinal-profile rail, because the clamping effect as a result of the spring force is not sufficient in any case to prevent the mounting base with the borne by it gun to slipping.
It is noted, however, that the spring force of the mounting device according to the invention is generally sufficient to immovably hold a riflescope o. The like. During normal handling of the gun on this. The user is therefore usually no difference determine between the mounting according to the invention and one of the above-mentioned assembly of the prior art, except that the mounting base is significantly smaller, and that the clamping lever is missing and thus the handling is simplified.
It is possible to form in the longitudinal-profile rail on both sides of a projecting edge, then engage in the two parts of the mounting base from the inside by being pushed apart by the spring force. Extensions of these parts, which can be grasped by the user's fingers need to be only compressed for removal of the mounting base. At least a bevel on the two parts can ensure that the mounting base needs to be pressed only to the longitudinal rail. The engaging into the edges of the longitudinal rails chamfers pressing the two parts of the mounting base together, overcoming the spring force. In such a multi- denförmig trained longitudinal rail but can easily collect dirt, especially when it is mounted horizontally at the top of the weapon.
Therefore, the both side edges of the longitudinal be preferred - profile rail gripped from the outside, since then an insufficient seat is more likely to be excluded because of the pollution of the longitudinal rail. The spring force then causes the two parts of the mounting base toward each other charged. In addition, this one of the ne part is guided in the other and is on this side over to form a handle. When pressed with a finger in this handle, while another finger supports the other part, then overcoming the spring force the two engagement edges (each with a groove or a web) from the side edges of the longitudinal rail (each with a jetty or a groove) away. Furthermore, the part equipped with the handle, referred to as a depressible part, while the other part is referred to as non -eindrückbarer part. The leadership of the collapsible portion in the non-collapsible part ensures that the mounting base made up of two parts is sufficiently longitudinally stable.
A particularly simple training on mounting base is a cross pin, preferably a round cross pin, which extends parallel with an attached mounting base to a transverse groove and engages. It is possible to arrange the cross pin in the collapsible part. However, it is more expedient to place the cross pin in the non -eindrückbaren part of the mounting base, as then there is no risk that the movement of the collapsible portion is hindered by the scrubbing of the transverse pin in the transverse groove (claim 3).
The cross pin is preferably disposed adjacent to the collapsible portion, ie in the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal rail. Before or after the collapsible portion, so that the transverse pin not to enforce the crushable member needs (claim 4)
In a hunting rifle, which is used by only one shooter and with only a single scope, it is sufficient to arrange only a single transverse groove in the longitudinal rail, as shown in US-A-3,877,166 (Ward) , When Montageein- inventive device, however, several transverse grooves are preferably in the longitudinal profile rail formed (claim 5).
Thus the mounting base can be used with the cross pin in the most appropriate transverse groove. It is thus possible for example also to arrange a riflescope in excellent eye relief, if the shooter is wearing a thick flak jacket and winter clothes. There, any other means for one and the same gun to be determined, such as a night target device, a luminous point target device, a visor for special ammunition, such as a grenade launcher sight, o. like. These may, depending on the length and weight, have one or more mounting base and are daily plinth respectively used with the cross pin of the or each assembly in a suitable transverse groove ,
Here, it is according to another embodiment of the invention is of particular advantage to extend the longitudinal rail to the front, approximately up to the end of the forearm or even to the mouth. An optical or illuminated particle (for marksmen with "Eagle Eye") may also be placed as a combination of optical sighting telescope and image intensifier or image converter to have at night a high performance night aiming device or a thermal image-night destination device. This often long-building equipment can then be fitted with two or with even more mounting bases. Here, the fitting by means of a distance is chamfer on the lower edge of the press-in portion facilitates that faces the engaging edge of the longitudinal rail. the target device then needs only to this bar pressed be. However, for losing a hand is for each socket requires that presses the one pushable part. However, it is also possible to assign the collapsible portion has a catching device or locking device, to keep it pressed. In this case, said chamfer is not required.
For several decades, it manufactures in a die-casting process in gun making precision parts. It is used either zinc (due to the low melting point while maintaining sufficient strength) or plastic. It is advisable also inexpensive to produce at least the longitudinal rail of such a material (claim 6). As such, these materials have the disadvantage that they yield under a high surface pressure: when a steel pin strikes approximately in the bore of a workpiece made of zinc with a press fit, so you can pull this steel pin a day later easily from the hole because he sits only in a slight interference fit in the bore. The material has so far crystallized, as the warped by tensions crystal structure have reoriented. Acquaintances te assembly means having a longitudinal rail of plastic or zinc are therefore of little use. For them it's become virtually inevitable that a very high clamping force is applied to the material of the track and this causes to yield.
In this case a gun, a plastic splint would be particularly advantageous if the longitudinal profile rail should extend at least over approximately the length of the forearm to the front to make about a device carrier for universal use. A plastic rail could indeed prove itself more readily than a light metal rail.
Only the mounting device according to the invention allows the use of zinc in a surprising manner, or
Plastic for the longitudinal rail. Because the spring force with which the parts of the mounting base are pressed into engagement with the rail, is strictly defined. Even in case of unfavorable tolerances and unfavorable input position remains the spring force, which causes the clamping effect, in about the same magnitude. A Gewindeklemmung might produce in case of unfavorable setting a very considerable increase in the clamping force, which can even lead to the breaking of the clamping screw. The prerequisite is a spring means which linearly changes its spring force about to travel, and this in only a small extent; not as a Belleville spring assembly as described in EP 444 300 A2 (Repa). Spring means of one or two prestressed compression coil springs made of wire have proved effective.
To avoid harmful contact pressures, the dimensions may of course not be too low and will be greater as a rule than existing assembly equipment. When width of a longitudinal rail of plastic, measured transverse to the longitudinal direction of the gun, ie a distance between the two engagement edges, a dimension of 20 to 25 mm has proved. The engagement length of the mounting base is about the same level. The material of the mounting base is preferably light metal, such as an aluminum alloy, as can result in higher surface pressures in the support of the spring means, as they are eligible for plastic or zinc.
The invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment and the accompanying diagrammatic drawing. In the drawings:

Fig. 6 shows the section CC in Fig. 2,
Fig. 7 shows the section DD in Fig. 2, and Fig. 8, seen obliquely mounting means of FIG. 1, from above.
All figures show the same assembly device which is displayed in the approximately 1.5-fold magnification. All reference numerals refer to like parts in all figures.
in others assume it with terms such as "above", "forward" u. the like. from the normal stop position of a gun, in which the weft direction is horizontal. "Front" has in the weft direction.
The mounting means comprises a longitudinal rail profile 1 made of plastic, which is preferably produced by injection, or the like as a reinforcement of glass fibers. is sprayed, and comprising a solid lower part 2, which has an approximately flat rectangular cross section and is mounted on the top of a gun; additionally two shells 4, which sit on the two sides of the lower part 2 and each having a square cross section which is extended in the form of an isosceles triangle to the outside, in such a way that the free tips of these cross-sectional triangles respectively engaging
Longitudinal edges 3, 5 form, extending beyond the lower part 2 respectively outward. Between the two shells 4 an upwardly open longitudinal groove 7 is recessed. This is used to save weight and also helps to maintain a reasonably uniform wall thickness in the longitudinal rail 1 so that casting defects are avoided. In the rail 1 a plurality of transverse grooves 9 are transverse to their longitudinal extension introduced, which extend through the tops 4 of the rail profile and reach down not quite up to the bottom of the longitudinal groove. 7 The cross section of these transverse grooves 9 has the shape of a squat lying rectangle. The rail 1 extends from a location above the front end of the bulb neck up to a position above the front end of the fore-end of a gun and is attached only at two points. At one of these sites, the rail is set to 1 in all three coordinate directions without discarding at the other only in two coordinate directions, similar to a road bridge with a fixed and a loose bearing, in order to perform thermal expansion relative to the gun may thereby.
On the rail 1 sits a mounting base 11 which is formed from a collapsible portion 15 and a non -eindrückbaren part. 13 The non -eindrückbare part 13 has at each end on each side a claw 17, 19 which is complementary to the engagement edge 5 of the rail 1 and that edge 5 engages. Here a folded-cross pin one 17 of the claws 17, 19 in the longitudinal direction (the direction of extension of the bar 1) is shorter than the other claw 19 passes through the area of the claw 19 21 with an attached mounting base 11 in a transverse groove 9 low or any game engages.
The crushable portion 15 is guided transversely movable in not -eindrückbaren part. 13 It projects from a longitudinal side of the non-crushable member 13 out - in this case on the side of the engagement edge 5 - and there comprises a handle 23 that protrudes laterally from the mounting base 11 by hand and can be pressed into the interior thereof.
Within the mounting base 11 are two faces of the two parts 13, 15 are opposite, between which two compression springs 25 are arranged. A restriction pin 27 which is driven into the non-crushable portion 13, engages in the crushable portion 15 in its final position and limits its movement. We appreciated the crushable portion 15 is pressed into a rest position, in which the handle 23 from the non - protrudes laterally collapsible section 13 Type. On the opposite side a downwardly standing, lateral longitudinal ridge is formed on the collapsible portion 15, in which the rail 1 side facing an engaging groove 29 is formed, which is complementary to the engaging edge 3 and this encompasses. In the rest would be the collapsible portion 15, the engaging groove 29 is seen pressed by the force of the springs 25 against the engaging edge 3, so that the mounting base 11 is then held rigidly in place in substantially on the track. 1 By pushing the handle 23 with the fingers of one hand, the opposite holds with another finger on the non-collapsible portion 13 or mounted thereon riflescope o. Like., The engagement groove 29 can be moved out of engagement with the engaging edge 3 and the mounting base removed 11 of the rail are the. The same applies to the placement of the mounting base 11 on the rail. 1
On the flat, upper surface of the mounting base 11 to mount the riflescope or appliance can be attached.
The clamping of the mounting base 11 on the rail 1 takes place only by the spring force of the compression springs 25. As far as the force resulting from the clamping friction force is not sufficient to hold the mounting base 11 in the longitudinal direction, the transverse pin 21 provides this stop, which engages in one of the transverse grooves. 9
The length of the two claws 17, 19 is approximately equal to the length of the engaging groove 29. For the shorter the lengths of the spring force of the compression springs 25 and geometry of the engaging edges 3, 5 and the claws 17, 19 results in the maximum surface pressure on the rail 1. This is dimensioned such that the plastics material of the rail 1 by the engagement of the claws 17, 19 and the engaging groove 29 undergoes no permanent deformation.
In the illustrated mounting base 11 its location or orientation is chosen in each case so that the handle 23 in a right-handed as protecting the left and a left-handed as a shooter is on the right, so that this handle can be 23 pressed with the thumb of the user manual, if the other hand holding derschaft the gun below the previous.
