Interactive call-handling

Abstract

Calls made from telephone terminals T1-Tn via a telephone network C are handled concurrently within a receiving station D by processing systems P1-Pn that by means of automated voice messages prompt the callers through an interactive sequence (Fig 3) to operate their telephone push-buttons 14 to signal digital data to the station D. Digital data received from each caller and derived otherwise from his call, is stored (Figs 2 and 4) and, according to the processor operating format selected, gives specific identification of the caller, health data, and call sequence-order or time, together with processor-derived data which the caller is prompted to signal back to the processor for confirmatory purposes. Selection of format, and with it the particular processor PR1-PRn used, depends upon the number called as signalled to the receiving station by a dialled-number identification system (DNIS) of the network C. The format may alternatively relate to telephone-order purchasing (Fig 5), participation in a lottery, or participation in a TV auction, gameshow (Fig 7) or opinion-poll. The caller is first checked for qualification to participate before processing of the gathered data is carried out. Calls may be transferred to be progressed with assistance from an operator's terminal IT when qualification checks are not satisfied.

14 claims: 6 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
A process for controlling operations of an interface via a telephone communication system including remote terminals, the process including the steps of:receiving signals indicative of terminal digital data automatically provided by the telephone communication system, the terminal digital data serving as key numbers associated with limits on use to entitle individual callers to access the operations of the interface via the telephone communication system;utilizing the key numbers as digital identification data for the individual callers;qualifying the individual callers by testing to determine if the individual callers are entitled to access the operations of the interface by comparing the key numbers for the individual callers with a file of key numbers stored in a memory and further testing the key numbers for the individual callers to determine if certain limits on use associated with the key numbers are reached and accordingly providing approval signals for qualified individual callers;accessing the memory with the key numbers for the individual callers and storing data related to a call in the memory during the interface;and providing on-going accounting data related to the call to the individual callers on-line during the interface.
  2. 3
The process according to claims 1 and 2, wherein at least one of the limits on use relates to prior use.
  3. 4
The process according to claims 1, 2, and 3, wherein the file includes negative file data.
  4. 5
The process according to claims 1 through 4, wherein the individual callers are qualified by further testing to determine if the individual callers are calling within a predetermined period of time.
  5. 6
The process according to claims 1 through 5, wherein answer data provided from the remote terminals under control of the individual callers is further received.
  6. 10
An analysis control system for use with a communication facility including remote terminals for individual callers, wherein said remote terminals may comprise a telephone instrument including a voice communication device and a digital input device in the form of an array of alphabetic numeric buttons for providing data, said analysis control system comprising:a plurality of interface structures located at remote geographic locations that are coupled to said communication facility to interface said remote terminals for voice and digital communication, and each of the plurality of interface structures capable of receiving caller data signals representative of data relating to said individual callers entered via said remote terminals and capable of receiving called number identification signals (DNIS) automatically provided by said communication facility to identify a select one of a plurality of different called numbers associated with a select format from a plurality of different formats operated under control of the interface structures;record structure, including a memory and a control capability, said record structure connected to receive said caller data signals from at least one of said interface structures for accessing a file and storing certain of said data entered via said remote terminals relating to certain select ones of said individual callers, said caller data signals including signals representing caller credit card number data and credit card expiration date data, which are verified when said select ones of said individual callers are on-line;qualification structure coupled to said record structure for qualifying access by said individual callers to said select formate based on at least two forms of distinct identification including caller customer number data and at least one other distinct identification data element consisting of personal identification data provided by a respective one of said individual callers, the caller customer number data and the personal identification data element compared against stored data;and switching structure coupled to said interface structure for switching certain select ones of said individual callers at said remote terminals to any one of a plurality of live operators wherein said live operators can enter at least a portion of said caller data relating to said select ones of said individual callers through interface terminals, which is stored in said record structure.
