5 claims: 4 independent, 1 dependent

  1. 1
An energy absorbing member comprising:a pipe-like member (22,22a) comprising a plurality of laminated layers including a continuous glass fiber random mat, and a uni-direction continuous glass fiber layer in which glass fibers are arranged in an axial direction of the pipe-like member, said plurality of laminated layers being formed into a cylindrical shape, each of said laminated layers being impregnated with a resin;and a trigger member (23,23a) joined to an end portion of said pipe-like member, said trigger member having an inclined circumferential surface (232) that is able to expand the end portion of the pipe-like member when the trigger member is pushed into the pipe-like member in an axial direction thereof.
  2. 2
An energy absorbing member as defined in claim 1, wherein said pipe-like member (22,22a) comprises said continuous glass fiber random mat as a first layer, said uni-direction continuous glass fiber layer as a second layer, and said continuous glass fiber random mat as a third layer, said first layer, said second layer and said third layer being laminated on each other.
  3. 4
An energy absorbing member as defined in any of claims 1 to 3, wherein said resin is ortho-phthalic acid type unsaturated polyester resin.
  4. 5
An energy absorbing member as defined in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein said inclined circumferential surface (232) of said trigger member (23,23a) is formed as a curved surface that curves radially inward such that a convex side of the curved surface is located on the side of an axis of the trigger member.
