8 claims: 6 independent, 2 dependent

  1. 1
A microcomputer formed on a single chip comprising:a CPU, a memory, and a data bus (IDB31-0) coupled to said CPU and said memory,     characterised in that the microcomputer is of the reduced instruction set computer (RISC) type wherein    the CPU includes a plurality of 32-bit general purpose registers (R0H, R0L, ..., R15H, R15L) and    each instruction stored in said memory has a fixed length of 16 bits.
  2. 4
The microcomputer of any preceding claim, further comprising a direct memory access controller (DMAC) coupled to said data bus (IDB31-0).
  3. 5
The microcomputer of any preceding claim, wherein said CPU further comprises a program counter register (PCH, PCL) being of 32 bits length.
  4. 6
The microcomputer of any preceding claim, wherein the number of said general purpose registers (R0H, R0L, ..., R15H, R15L) is sixteen.
  5. 7
The microcomputer of any preceding claim, wherein an instruction to be processed by said CPU has an area for designating two of said general purpose registers (R0H, R0L, ..., R15H, R15L).
  6. 8
The microcomputer of any preceding claim, further comprising:a 32-bit base register (GBRH, GBRL) for storing a base address, and a 32-bit procedure register (PRH, PRL) for storing a return address from a subroutine procedure.
